OK all you veterans - riddle me this!

I am using a Kanger Tech subox Mini and up till today I was using the .5 Ohm coil (which I have been using since I started). I thought I would try the 1.5 Ohm coil. I read on the side of the coil that 10 - 30W was recommended. I set my mod to 8W (I have always been a low watt kinda guy) to start and took my first hit. Then WAM ---- I was hit with so much more flavor my mouth started to water. I tool another hit with the same results.

So here is my riddle ----- What makes going from the .5 coil to the 1.5 coil such a difference? Now before you answer, I usually ran my .5 coil around 16 watts, so I was kinda low to start with. But the flavor bomb that went off in my mouth was unbelievable.

So did the factory mis-program me for a 1.5 coil instead of a .5 coil?

Thanks

Maybe it is a mislabeled coil. Sounds pretty crazy that you are getting that much vapor at 8w. Do you have an ohm reader? Throw it on that and see what reading you get.
Ah, but he didn't say he's getting more vapor, just more flavor ;)

They don't always equate. :)

Years ago we used to counsel people to start low and work your way up with temps. Find the spot where the liquid shines the best. If we start high, stands to reason that experimenting with low may now need to be implemented

Just a thought. Guess it depends on what your going for ;)

My sweet spot for flavor has always been the lower watts too :)

Could be several things: Higher ohms usually means more wraps and surface area. Could also be that it is just a new coil and a new coil always tastes better. Also I believe that you're actually using more power with the 1.5 ohm at 8 watts than the .5 ohm at 16 watts.

Power is wattage

I believe the OP just discovered tootle puffing

Key to your setup though is 3.0 ohms. That is all about the flavor
Which is what the OP has just discovered ;) higher ohms and lower watts can sometimes bring about more flavor.

None are (or better be) criticizing any other form of vaping. Just answering the question of why the OP had this happen to him.

More voltage, yes, but power is watts. 16 watts, regardless of resistance or anything else, is by definition more power than 8 watts. But you are correct that it takes more voltage to reach 8w at 1.5 ohms than it does for 16w at half an ohm.

OP: if you want to get a similar vape from both coils, maybe try the 1.5 at 5.3 watts (2.82v, like .5Ω at 16w) or the .5 at 24w (3.46v, like the 1.5 at 8w).

You guys are right. I misspoke. I meant to say voltage. Using more voltage to get to that power.

So here is my riddle ----- What makes going from the .5 coil to the 1.5 coil such a difference?

Because it's not about ohms alone.
It is a balance of things.

For a particular eliquid mix, you will find first of all that it vapes best at a particular wattage.
If you use a coil that performs best at that same wattage then you end up with the perfect balance.
