Hi all – I bought a 50 pack of these coils to try my hand at replacing coils in the heads for my tanks. I finally got them today and they seem to work just fine in my protanks, vision V3, and vivi nova tanks.
I bought the 2.0ohm coils but the 3 I tried so far read 2.4ohms – They work just fine but they are not 2.0.
Can I remove a wrap or add a wrap to decrease the resistance or is it set by the wire used?
Just curious. They are cheap and they work and they are step along the journey.
Also – should I torch these things before I use them? –can I torch them without removing the wick?

Decrease the wire length and you would decrease the resistance. Try it and see what happens.
According to the specs the wire is nichrome and the wick silica, so torching it should be fine. Again, try it and see what happens.
I've never, TMK, used nichrome or FT pre-made wicks. I torch the flavor wicks when I clean my PT atomizer heads. No deaths or dreaded disease reports to date.

FastTech makes many types. Some are NR-R-NR and I don't know if removing wraps would help. I have 100 of the 1.8ohm and 100 of the 1.5 ohm incoming to rebuild EVOD coils with.

I'll pull out the silica and use cotton with 2, 1mm silica flavor wicks on top. I also added 3 7-packs of their https://www.fasttech.com/products/1587900 H2 2ml clearomizers. I've been using EVODS to rebuild, but 21 of those for $25 and they take the same coils sounds like a deal. Plus they hold more. Try to link what you bought on FastTech or at least the SKU number?

I think your approach is good - start with pre-made coils and then if you so desire wind your own.

I use them on occasion - no problems but I mostly wrap my own using kanthal.

Nice thing about pre-made coils with silica is that you can clean by pulse firing, plus you are saving money for more mods:D

I do torch my pre-made coils with silica wick before first use - clean off any residue stuff (stuff - a technical term).

Just buzzing through with a question. You're using silica on top because using cotton as a flavor wick would scorch it, right?

Some do use cotton as a flavor wick. I'm not there yet...LOL I finally figured out that MAX cotton that you can pull through the coil is fail. I started using a lot less cotton and no more gurgles. I'll be trying cotton flavor wick soon. I just know that with a cotton wick and not a giant fat one, with 2 1mm silica flavor wicks works awesome. I'm sticking with what works great for me, but I will be trying cotton flavor wicks now that I got the bottom part rocking. Then again, I just bought 25' of 1mm silica for $15.50 so there is no hurry. 1mm 1 5mm 2mm 2 5mm 3mm High Quality Silica Wick Bonus 32 Gauge 10' Kanthal | eBay

And I don't think it would scorch it. Not unless you are using too much and plugging up the side holes so it can't draw juice.

I bought PN 1464502
I was thinking of pulling the wick and replacing it with cotton and laying more cotton or part of the pulled wick as a flavor wick on top.
It floods as built - do you think this would work? I think they leak or flood because its not packed tight enough in the protank head ?
Thanks

Somewhere out there
I started with the ones with no-resistance legs https://www.fasttech.com/p/1593902, they were spot on matching the labeled resistance. No resistance legs won't scorch the rubber grommet, unlike what can happen with plain nichrome or kanthal.

Then I discovered cotton and I'll be using the ones with no wicks in the future. With cotton, I don't replace the coil all the time, just pull out the old wick, dry burn and insert new wick.

I didn't use cotton for long until I discovered rayon http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ck-better-flow-flavor-saturation-nic-hit.html which is just fantastic in the Kanger heads.

I replace the stem and look for gaps around the wick, I add just enough top wick to loosely fill the gaps (if there are any). I've had no flooding since starting to do this.

That was/is my plan to try. But I don't know if it will work (sure hope it does). I bought the 15' of 1mm silica as a backup plan. Or more of a keep what works going plan. What you bought is fancy name brand Goonk? stuff...:) Yours might not be a NR-R-NR so you can adjust the ohms by shortening them. Heck, it's got great reviews and 50 for $6 you can't go wrong. Let us know how they work?

EVOD Protank gurgles 101 for me:
I used too much cotton. It swelled up and blocked my airflow so I sucked harder. When I sucked harder it pulled juice in the side holes. Using less cotton fixed that problem. I pull through enough cotton to fill the coil, but not enough to bend the coil all to one side so I have to straighten it back out with a pin or something. I build my coils with 5-6 wraps of 32 or 7-8 wraps of 30 kanthal. Normally the 32 since that and 2 1mm flavor wicks are foolproof for me. It ends up 1.6-1.9 ohms.

Also using too much cotton on your main wick can make the wick too fat, too much juice in it, so it's difficult for the coil to burn it.
