Hi again all,

So I've been looking in to getting at least some wick and kanthal for whenever I need to rebuild some of my coils. Currently in my inventory or on the way:

2 itaste vv v3's
2 ego-t 900mah's
Kanger T2's and one Kanger T3 tank, and a few replacement coils for them
one Smoktech RDA

I haven't really done the math yet, so I'm not sure what gauge wire would equate to what kind of resistance in the coil, and I'm not sure what size wicks to get. Assuming I'm staying at this level of inventory for a bit, what gauge wire and wicks would work well for both the kangers and the smoktech RDA? Right now I think I have 2.5ohm coils in my kangers on the Ego batteries, so they seem to work fine, so I guess around 2.5ohms for a wire would be fine, besides, the itastes could be varied anyway so I can match them to whatever coil I make, and I think they have built in resistance reading so I'll be able to test out the wire once the coil is built.

Any other comments or recommendations are appreciated, thanks.

I use 32g in my clearomizers and 30/28 in my rda's...
For a 2mm 2.5ohm coil with 32g, you would make 7 wraps...
2mm 2.5ohms with 28g would be 20 wraps..

Thanks for this, this kind of helps with the science of it. Is there some sort of formula to determine the necessary materials for a given resistance? I understand the thinner the gauge of wire (i.e. higher gauge) means higher resistance in less wraps. I've seen a few charts on a google search that do give specific resistances and their respective volts/watts, but I wonder if there's a similar chart for "if I want this resistance, you can use this gauge and this many wraps" kind of relation. I'll keep searching meantime.

While on this topic, I understand a *little* about why people would want HR or LR carts/atomizers, I understand that low resistances means it takes less battery to cook the vapor, which does seem efficient in terms of charging less per day/week, BUT, why do some people aim for higher resistances? 3 ohms, 4 ohms, etc, obviously it would take more battery power to cook the vapor at that point, but I'm curious if there are any specific pro's to using higher resistance coils. There has to be a reason a person is willing to sacrifice the amount of cooks per charge, I'm just not sure what those upsides are.

I have been rebuilding my protank heads and consistently getting 1.8ohms using 30g at 10 wraps with a micro coil and threading Maxim Organic cotton. It's been amazing. . .

Good setup, but it also depends on what kind of battery you're using, I just have a typical Ego T for now, until I get some itaste VV V3's, I have yet to order them from 101vape, mainly because I want to add some wick and kanthal to the order and trying to figure out which ones to purchase, that's why I started this whole thing, although I didn't make that clear. 1.8ohms may work for your setup indeed, but I'm still new to this so if I was to make an LR coil while rebuilding a T2 coil, I want to at least have those itaste's around so I can tone down the volts/watts if need be.

Just to clarify, the 2mm you're mentioning is referring to the inner diameter of the coil? i.e. the wick you're wrapping has to be around 2mm in diameter to get that type of wrap?

Hey guys, thanks for all the info, just curious, has anyone used organic cotton in any of the protank models in placement for silica wick? By organic cotton, I mean it can just be a torn off piece of a larger cotton ball, or even braided organic cotton wick. I just was curious if that would work, making the coil and using a shard of cotton from the ball of organic I recently ordered instead of the wicks. Definitely should work for the T3 since it's a bottom feed, but I wonder how well it works for a T2 setup.
