Haven't soldered to a fatdaddy washer/tab but Have soldered brass stock that looks the same size and wire up to 8ga. I sand the area and use 63/37 solder, also helps that my iron goes up to 900*. You are pre tinning the tab and wire right?
I sanded the area and then wraped the wire around it. Once I applied an ample amount of solder (enough to fill the hole basically) I used a file and sanded that down so it sat flush against my case. Otherwise the connector sat crooked ><
That washer is fair slug of metal to heat, add to that if you have it already installed...add to that again if your mod box is aluminum...that's a mighty big heatsink for any iron to overcome...anything that big I pre solder a neg lead to it with a butane torch. If you try and do it in place you risk melting the delrin connector and internal o ring while waiting for your iron to get it hot enough...just saying
