What would you recommend that is that small yet still holds an 18650?

Any well built mod with decent venting and a 510 connection on top. Avoid Hybrid styles until you have a strong understanding of design and dangers possible when using.

Are you looking for Original(authentic) or just a decent 18650 Mod?

My favorites are the Hellfire Raptor and Ology.

There are certain procedures to be followed with this Mech. Do not press the fire button without a proper atty screwed all the way in. Make sure your Atty Positive pin extends past the atties 510 threads and does not move or spring loaded. I also check that once screwed into the Mod that the positive sticks out.

The latest trend here is to hate on the psudo hybrids. If they are not your thing then fine. They are no different then any other Mech. Short the thing out and bad things happen. Just got to make sure you don't short it out.

They are not the best first mech mods depending on the person.

Before you buy that mod you may want to read this thread A SMPL Explosion. | E-Cigarette Forum

Yep, I saw that. But that isn't really a problem with the SMPL, that is a problem with using the SMPL improperly. Saying the SMPL is unsafe is a bit of an overstatement. Using the SMPL improperly is unsafe is more accurate, but that can be said of just about any device (or anything for that matter). None the less, I do agree that if someone were thinking of buying a hybrid device, a bit of education would not hurt.

I do have an understanding of the dangers of using the SMPL improperly but it seemed to be the smallest 18650 mech available which was what I was looking for. I'm not picky when it comes to authentics or clones, I just wanted something smaller for driving and doing work around the house. However, one that uses an 18650 is important to me for battery life.

For along time I liked my Orchid on it, in short tank mode. Right now it has a Plum Veil on it and the flavor is very nice. Iv got a Cyclone mini coming in that I expect to look and run good on it, as well I have a Origen clone coming in that I also expect to do fine on it. I do have a few fixed pin non adjustable RDA`s that can not be used on it due to potential shorting issues.

Its not rocket science, I can drive any car into a wall, any car, if I don`t know what I`m doing. Its as SMPL as understanding the difference between a closed and open circuit, and how to prevent one or the other.

Edited to add: The KF may not be the best choice, the ones Iv seen do not have an adjustable center pin and the center pins are also placed up into the 510 connection, so understand that you do have to keep a good amount of space between the two 510 connection points so as not to cause a short.

The Derringer seems like it was pretty much made for the SMPL. I have a clone like sonicbomb (mines a Tobeco) and its 510 is plenty long enough. I use mine on my Stingray X with the hybrid cap every day. You might wanna check out the Stingray X too while youre at it. The SMPL is a one piece mech, meaning if you get a new atty that doesnt have a decent 510 pin you cant use it. The Stingray X comes with both a regular 510 top cap, and a hybrid cap so you wouldnt have this problem if you wanted to try something that wouldnt cut it in hybrid mode. I have to use the regular cap with my Samurai Bonsai clone because the 510/positive post in it likes to push itself up, so theres no way I can trust it as a hybrid. Ive got a 15ml plastic dropper bottle sitting next to my Stingray right now, and the mod itself is just a hair taller than the bottle. Throw the Derringer, which is about the size of a penny's diameter, and youve got a pretty small mech combo.. I really wanted the SMPL too, but I liked the fact the Stingray came with both top caps, and can also be used with 18350 or 18500 batteries (if you REALLY wanna get small)..

No, it IS a problem with the SMPL. It's a dangerous design.

No it's not if you understand your gear.
Mechanicals are advance user items.

Most people hate admitting they are not advanced users.

Mechanical mods aren't a one-size-fits-all product.
Like a chainsaw, you need to understand your gear and how to use it properly to be safe.

Anyone using a cheapo Chinese prebuilt coil on any mechanical mod is asking for trouble, and that should be a sign they do not understand their gear.

Don't blame the design when it's people who are causing the issue.
