Should I take the button off, & put back on using string? Does the string stay on under the button then? Except for a magneto somebody let me use I've always had regulated devices & never had to worry about any of this. How often you all clean the firing pin & how often do u use alcohol or Noalox? So just a little bit on positive part & leave it on? Is it mainly Sony's? I have vtc4 & 5's. Is there a better battery for the Reo using lower wattage?

.....not the button, the button cover. Maybe that's what you meant....just don't want you taking the button out by mistake. :)

Your batteries are fine (the choice of many of us in here, in fact). The issue is that they are flat top (not button top). This means the firing pin has to travel longer to make contact with the bat lead. Two things can happen with that: you can get arc'ing between the pin and the bat when you fire (thus, the use of the noalox/deoxit to prevent it) OR the firing pin might not make full contact with the battery (thus, the advice to keep your button cover higher to allow more travel in the button).

The alcohol is for cleaning the gold firing pin (and spring, if you like), and noalox/deoxit is applied (with a q-tip, I recommend) and left on afterwards.

As far as frequency of noalox/deoxit application, it couldn't hurt to establish a regular regime. Say, every second or third refill of the juice bottle (since this is linked to frequency of firing).

You'll get the hang of it all. We all had to pick these tricks up.

Holy cow, every 2nd or 3rd juice refill.... Can I buy a gallon of noalox from Rob? Lol, jk! I go through juice, not that much. So glad I had this vapor problem & learned all this. Would've stumbled across it sometime but better sooner then later:) Makes sense w/ flat top vs button top & having to obviously travel farther. Had no idea a piece of string under button top could help :)

I don't know how ppl quote 2 ppl in 1 post lol. As soon as I wrote that I almost went back & edited to say button cover! Should I take button cover off? Just lay string over button, push button cover down & let it be?

Well, that's just an example. Others might tell you to apply once a month or so (or even never if you're resistances are high) - I'm just paranoid (running .4 ohm duals on VTC5's), and I don't do the full clean every time (just a swabbing with alcohol).

You only need a teeny tiny amount and a lifetime supply jar of the stuff costs about $15 (where I live).

I run single coils 1.6-1.8 ohms. I never use deoxit, even though I'm using Sony VTC5's (flat top). I have some, but I've never had an arcing problem, and there's never any visible crud on the firing pin. I swab the tip of the firing pin with a q-tip dipped in alcohol about once a month, because otherwise I feel like I'm neglecting my REO :)

Once you have the button cover on tight, and at a height that allows the firing pin to make good contact with the battery, it never changes.

I'd guess that any mod would require more maintenance as your resistance (ohms) is lowered. My maintenance consists of change battery and juice, maybe dry burn the coil once a week, clean firing pin once a month (ish).

These are actually very low maintenance mods.

Depends on how you run them. A VW microbus requires much less maintenance than a 3.2 litre Ferrari, but you get better performance with higher maintenance.
