So I just got an ipv mini, as soon as I started using it I noticed some things about it that I haven't seen on other batteries that have an LED screen. This is also my first ipv product. So my questions.

1. I see there is two options for power; PWM and DC-DC. I would like to know the difference between the two and which is better?

2. I notice sometimes the LED screen doesn't fully shut off, it goes into dim mode. Is this going to cause my battery to drain faster and if so how do I make it so it does not go dim and just always shuts off completely?

3. I noticed when I fire the battery the battery meter crashes way low. Is this normal? And is when I'm firing it the true battery level or is when it's standby is the true level?

4. Last question, the store I bought it from said that you can connect it to a computer to download a new firmware if the come out with a new one. Is this true? If so how do I do that?

Thanks guys!

Hopefully somebody else will give you more in-depth answers, here are a few quick replies:

1. Use DC-DC at higher wattages when your voltage is over 4.0v, and PWM for low wattages.

2. Mine usually shuts off eventually after using it.

3. That is normal.

4. No, these are not software updatable.

Concerning your reply to question 2, Sometimes it'll immediately go dim as soon as I let go of the firing button and will stay dim and never turn off, I usually have to press the button a few times (not long enough to actually fire) till it will completely shut off. Other times it will do the same but completely shut off after being dim for a little bit. Im wondering if mine could possibly have a chip defect?

I just went over and grabbed mine after posting that and had the display get stuck on dim for about a minute or so after firing it.

I thought most of the time it dims, and then shut off rather quickly. I don't use it much, its technically my wife's mod and I don't think she pays attention to stuff like that. So I don't know the rate the screen dims and just stays on for a bit.

That is what I have noticed on mine. That doesn't mean it should be doing that.

Hmm mine sometimes does shut off and sometimes does not. I have discovered though that by pressing the "-" button then pressing the "+", just so it puts it back up to the watts I want, it will completely shut off without going into dim mode. Not really a big problem just something I may be a little OCD about.

I also have another question as I just read through the manual again.
I bought a 18650 battery for it and a charger. The guy at the store told me that this is how I have to charge the battery. But I noticed in the manual that it says to charge with the micro USB port on the mod. Would you reccomend using the charger I bought or charging it with the micro USB?

Interesting, I'll try playing with the wattage up/down buttons next time I see it happen.

I personally prefer to externally charge my 18650s, but I have 10+ of them, so when it gets low I just take it out, put a fresh one in, and throw it on the charger.

One thing I have noticed is the battery meter on the mini isn't the best. Their idea of low battery is a lot lower than I prefer. I only like to drain my 18650s to 3.5-3.6v, but on the mini if you let it go down to where it shows empty its probably around 3.2v. I've never let it go down that low, so I'm not sure exactly how low it goes.

If you just have the one battery I don't think it would matter either way. It may be more convenient to use the on board micro USB charger.

Mine acts pretty much the same way. It's just how it works. The dim display isn't drawing enough power to affect the life of the battery. I prefer to charge my batteries in a charger, not in the device. Although, if I'm getting low and driving, I'll plug it in and use it in pass-through mode so I don't drain any more. All in all, I find it to be a kick-... little device.

In the past with other 30 watt mods the USB charging just took to long and sometimes your mod gets hot when using it in pass through so i avoid it when ever possible.if you are at work or in your car and your battery is dying it may be convenient to just plug it into your USB port and set it on your desk. I always carry and extra battery and i usually just swap my batteries out when they get low.
