Each cartotank will have two sets of o-rings in the end caps; inner and outer. The outer ones make a firm contact with the caps and the tube. The inner ones make a firm contact with the caps and the cartomizer. Both keep the tank together in one piece and also keep the tank from leaking e-liquid.

Each time that you insert a cartomizer into the endcaps, you are causing some wear and tear on the inner o-rings. They can even be damaged by the sharp edge of the top of the cartomizer. There are several "tank accessory tools" on the market to prevent this from happening. The first on the market and my favorite is the Slap Yo Moma tool from Big Daddy Vapor. I feel it offers the best design from a user's perspective.

Phil Busardo did a review and demo of this tool, and has pics of the damage o-rings can suffer if such a tool is not used.

It's also a wise move to lubricate the tank tool and cartomizer itself with a bit of e-liquid when inserting a cartomizer.

I typically only rinse my empty tanks under running water when changing flavors. Admittingly there are some flavors such as cinnamon or Pluid that can leave some retained flavor behind. In these cases a short bath in alcohol or just some soapy water should remove these stronger flavors.

so alcohol won't hurt the tank or O rings in any way? thanks for the info. so if I got a tank that used grommets it's the same cleaning process?
