I think a few of you have seen the below post on the new members forum and replied but for those of you who haven't, I copied and now pasting the guys post. Go to the new members forum to see my "hillbilly" replies!

"Only hillbillies and other trashy people smoke in their houses while kids are present. Why should vaping be any different? It's not about second hand smoke(or vapor), its about setting a good example for your kids. Don't be a trashy person.

And those of you who think your kids actually listen to you, yeah maybe till they are 13 or so. How many of you were told repeatedly that smoking was bad for you by your parentsd while you were a kid only to start the habit anyway once you hit your rebellious teen years. Give me a break.

Smoking, Drinking(to excess), Druggin AND vaping are all BAD HABITS. Why would you even contemplate doing any of these things in the presence of your children? Have a little control people, at least go into another room to vape if not outside if you have kids.

He has backed down considerably since that post. It was rude and insulting to everyone, not just hillbillies. As I said in my reply to him, I'd never call someone trashy for not making the same choices that I do. Don't let it upset you. It's very small of him and you are better than that.

 I tend to go overboard................I have a Rambo complex as my husband calls it. I don't draw first blood but when someone else does, they'd better watch out :D

thanks for thinking I'm better than that.................goes to show someone has taste ;)

I usually enjoy watching someone make an ask of themselves. He's done a fine job of that. I most especially enjoy it when that someone starts off with a superior attitude and gets knocked down a peg or two. Makes me smile every time.

I have slowed down posting in the new members forum just for that reason. And sure enough today I take a peek and BAM an .... making an .... of himself. I must learn to stay clear from that place.I have a hard time biting my tongue (fingers in this case) when someone starts name calling. I respect everyones opinion but not when it's offensive to others.

I have been in that thread and twice he posted right after me. I felt like it was directed right at me, but I took some deep breaths and read it over a few times, and responded in what I hope was an adult way to respond. What a way to start a post. The OP was asking for opinions, but the judgmental way that post began, wow. Really.

The most drama I've had all day. I like a little drama. I can't imagine going from smoker to that attitude so fast.

I enjoy the new members forum. Probably because I'm still a new member. I go in spurts, I'll post a lot, then don't post for a while. Part of that is because I'm out of town a lot. Part of it is because I just have to be in the right mood to post.

I agree with you about the name calling. I was actually pretty impressed with how it was handled by everyone. I've been on too many forums where that particular post would have quickly spiraled into a heated war and half the people being banned. Who knew vapers were such a great group of people?

 thanks. I tried to be as "nice" as I could without sounding like a total biatch :D

You were fine.

He offended the heck outta me. I might have been born in NYC and look very city, but I am a card carrying hillbilly tomboy who gets dirty, chops wood, fishes and rides 4-wheelers and dirt bikes. All this is done upstate NY on a 164 acre property. Yee Haw!!!:D

Wow I have to keep my eye on you or you might became a card carrying Hee Haw memeber. NOT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT! I grew up on Hee Haw and loved "Grandpa, what's for dinner"? ;)

I'm also jealous of the amount of property you have. We only have 8 acres.................

So many people come here from other types of forums..a lot are very young. By posting silly stuff like that they are seeking to curry favor with older members..thinking that is how we feel. It doesn't take too long for them to realize this isn't a teen gamers forum.
Just as an aside, my parents smoked and so did I, yes, around my kids and grands...in my house. I also vape around them all. Tough..I am too old to change by this time. My daughter doesn't smoke and never has, my son does. The grands dislike it but are not nazi's about smoking or vaping.
They know how hard I worked at quitting and watch G'pa try.
On another aside, The mountian people of The Virgina's, kentucky, Tennessee and the Carolina's form some of the hardest working people of this country. They may have been be farmers, craftspeople or factory workers many years ago but now they have jobs as varied as anywhere else. I am proud my childrens dad and grandparents come from such good stock.
Ignorant people make stupid judgements.

Man, times like this I wish I could still post in the newbie forum!!

Removing yourself from their presence shows them that the addictive habit carries some shame, not as bad a analogs but along the same lines. If you are not a little ashamed of your habit, especially for your kids sake, then by all means teach them that its perfectly acceptable to develop chemical dependencies.

That poster has fallen into the anti mentality that nicotine use is a horrible addiction, even absent the smoke. Should we not chew nicotine gum or wear a patch around our kids either? Or not drink alcohol or coffee or eat fatty foods in front of them? Those are "addictive habits" and "flaws," as well.

It's called EDUCATION. Even my 8 year old knows the difference between vaping and smoking - she's after her biological mom to start vaping because of seeing us switch.

Nicotine use (vaping) is a perfectly legal, reasonably safe, adult activity - no more shameful than drinking coffee every day. Other than inhaling nicotine, it's NOTHING like smoking. It doesn't have the health risks to the users and bystanders, nor does it smell bad, create ashes and butts and have the risk of fires. Equating the two is like comparing NASCAR racing to driving to work or school. Should we not enjoy the races because our kids will want to drive fast? (How's that for a good redneck country analogy? lol!)

I'm sorry he/she is ashamed of it, but we have no reason to be. It's attitudes like those that feed into the denormalization and ostracization of nicotine users and only hurts us in the long run.

I'm no more ashamed of my nicotine use than other people are ashamed that they drink 10 energy drinks a day or need anti-depressants to function.
