its black with a silver door, question why is so hard to get differant color doors and do the doors on the grands fit on the vv grands? there always sold out but seems like finding one in a trade wouldnt be to hard. also why do the vv grands run on 2 18350 instead of 1 18650? these may be questions for red eye dancer or rob but ill try and see if i can get an answer this way first before bugging him

I can answer one of your questions, Nautty1. The doors on the Grand and the VV Grand are NOT the same size.... Why on the batteries...? I'll let someone else answer that. It has (of course) to do with the VV electronics in the VV Grand, but I don't know exactly WHAT it has to do with them. :) The VV Grand is about a half inch taller than the Grand, so the Grand door is too short for the VV.

  1. Rob is working on getting spare doors available.
  2. The Grand doors and VV Grand doors are not interchangeable. You can try, but it'll look pretty goofy.
  3. The VV Grand uses a step-down voltage regulator and therefore requires two 3.7 volt batteries in series. A buck boost regulator operates off one 3.7 volt battery.

One of the reasons Rob chose the step-down regulator was battery longevity. (2) 18350 700mAh IMRs equate to about 12 hours of vaping without the voltage dropping. The notcigs chipset was also well tested and fairly robust without the need of an LCD/LED display. If Rob had gone with the buck-boost regulator chipset (available at that time) running an 18650 1600mAh IMR, we would likely have had to change batteries after about 8 hours. I personally prefer a (1) 18650 solution but understand the trade-offs. I still use my Grands more than VV for that very reason. I look forward to technology creep that will eventually bring us more efficient buck-regulators or DNA-like chips. A variable-wattage REO with an 18650 that can go 12-16 hours would be my ideal solution. Brew
