Finding my ADV, and HATING some flavors- Happened to you?

I'm about three weeks in now, and I'm really struggling with flavors. I've tried probably 20 different Dekang juices, and there are only a couple I like- Apple, Blueberry, Energy Cow, and Juicy Peach. The problem I'm having is that I completely HATE a lot of the new flavors and juices I'm trying. RY4- Terrible. Waffle- Disgusting. Root Beer- Now resent it, vanilla- Tollerable.

Also ordered some Mountain Due and Blueberry Dreamz VG Crystal Liquid from Electronic-Cigz and can't stand it. No taste, little hit, soapy overtones throughout. Dreadful. 60ml of stuff I can't use.

What I'm wondering is did any of you find that you liked just about everything when you started vaping, but now only have a few flavors you liked? Should I pitch what I don't like to the pay it forward?

I think I need to find my ADV soon or else the frustration (and cost of experimentation) is going to get to me. It's not easy to order samplers here in Canada either.

Welcome fellow Canadian!
I hear you about the lack of samplers in Canada... what I have begun to do is buy 36mg unflavored nic juice and mix it 50/50 with VG and add my own Lorann's flavoring. That way I can mix up a small bottle and if I hate it, well, its only a small bit wasted. The Lorann's flavors are cheap... 2.50 at the cake decorating shop. So far I have tried blackberry (my fav!) champagne (not bad, but a bit sweet/perfumey) pineapple (so so) and vanilla and butternut toffee. The Vanilla and butternut are very dark and seem to muck up attys and cartos pretty quick so I have abandoned them in favor of the clear flavors. I think I will try the blueberry next even though it has a bit of color in it. Loranns has a multitude of flavors to try so perhaps some experimenting with DIY may be the way for you to go. Somewhere on here is a list of the Loranns flavors and which ones are good and which ones are not so good. i.e. the oil based ones such as Wintergreen (dang it, I wanted to try that) and Spearmint.

Let them sit. I never used to think that leaving them for a week or two would help but it really does with some juices. I got some juice where I could not taste anything but sweet soap but after 2 weeks, the soapiness was gone and the flavors started coming out. It's still sitting so I can see if the flavor gets even better. They darkened up from almost clear to a dark pinkish-amber, too. If after 2-3 weeks they're still tasting bad, then maybe do a trade or something but give it a bit. Some awful flavors you have right now might become very tasty.

I bought some 24MG unflavored crystal liquid VG for that reason. Might be time to see if i can source some lorann stuff and USP PG locally to start mixing. I've seen the chart on which lorann stuff is water soluble, so I'll keep it at the ready. Thanks for the flavor suggestions!

I've heard about the aging thing, and so the second that the Crystal Liquid stuff I got didn't taste great, I took the caps off and set them away. I think my DK Apple will hold me for a bit until those Crystal Liquids can (hopefully) mature. I'll be interested to see how some of my DK liquids age that I dont touch. Thanks so much for your input.

I couldn't believe it when it happened to me! Without going into a lot of details a juice I found which I really liked, (30mg-well known brand) lit up my taste buds and i vaped it about a week. The bottle was going faster than i expected so i ordered the exact same thing from the same place! When it showed up it was clear to yellowish in color, (original was pinkish)
and tasted like @#$%. I was freaked. Called the vendor and he said it came from a fresh shippment to wait up to a month ???????????????? well you can imagine what I thought. I haven't been vaping all that long but its been about 2 wks and its almost pink. Tried it earlier this week and it was almost like my old friend, (long gone). I've already ordered 3 more.

i find the same issue with juices.

some are just to mild. For example, i have a boubon that tastes like they forgot to add flavoring. And i have a lemon that i was expecting to have more tartness than it does. Heck i have a peach that is more tart than the lemon.

But, this is an adventure for me. I have tried the same flavor from two differant suppliers. twice. and i found that there is a world of diferance in the flavor between the two. Each has their own mix. snd you may not find ne suppliers waffle to be so hot, but the others will knock your socks off!

I would wonder how vaperite juice ages but I vape it before I have a chance to see...

There have been some iffy flavors I have gotten though, sometimes if I am ordering hardware (carto's or batteries) from a place that has juice I will order a small sample of the juice as well...you never know it may turn out great
But often what I end up with is not so good...I tried volcano's blue punch and it was so over the top sweet I almost had a tooth ache...I mean it had flavor just not one I would vape all the time for sure. I am glad I only got a tiny little sample. Some of the cheaper places I have gone have been less than stellar as well...though menthol flavors always seem to be at least vapable if not always stellar.

oh well there is always vaperite to go back to...and once you find that one vape that you know you can fall back life is good.

Rodleland,

Congrats on becoming a vaper by the way!

If I was you and lived in Canada, I think I would post on the classified forums with a WTB ad. Just say you want to buy some samples of other juices from fellow Canadians. Maybe they can mail you some samples to try of their stock and do it cheaply.

I hated nearly all of the juice I bought at first, and I also bought too much, and I bought without a plan. In the future, you could try to develop a buying strategy that will narrow down your search without so much wasted money and effort. The variables you are trying to wade through are;

Nicotine level. The most important thing is to find the nic strength that keeps you happy.

PG, VG, or a mix? If a mix, what ratio or percentage gives you the best compromise between throat hit, vapor production, etc.

Sweet, or bitter? Some like only one, and don't need to waste much time on the other.

Fruit, candy, and/or tobacco? Some can't stand anything from one or two of those main categories. For example, I LOVE real fruit. I have yet to find a fruit flavored vape that doesn't make me gag. There are some flavors that don't fit precicely in one of those categories, but unless you just really want to try them, they can safely go into the "someday" file. Right now you are on a mission to find your "main vape". It's probably not going to be "Soda Burp", or "Bacon and Eggs".

TRY DIFFERENT BRANDS! One vendors' Raspberry Swirl will taste completely different than the next guy's, unless they both buy the same stuff from China. For example, I love DK-TAB and RY4 made by the much-maligned Dekang. Dekang is Dekang, no need to buy a sample from 10 different vendors. I can buy it by the liter from MyFreedomSmokes. If they mix their own, it's a different story. No other vendor that I've tried makes a Butter Rum that even comes close to tasting like the stuff from Tasty Vapor (my main, all-day vape. Can't live without it).

Sorry I can't offer a simpler suggestion, but that will help to narrow your search a little. Just go about it methodically, stay on a budget, keep notes, and don't fall into the mindset of "this is what I've found, so it must be all there is".

Learning to mix a little of your own will help a lot, as well. It gives you a better frame of reference, and will help you find what you're looking for. It's really not that hard to get into; just read and ask questions in the DIY section.

Good luck! :)

I think I've got most of those locked down now after a couple weeks. 24mg seems to bug me because it's too strong for when I want to vape for a while, and 18 seems just about right. I like the vapor from VG, but the crystal liquid turned me off the VG a bit because it was so weak flavor-wise. I think the next play is to find some good blended juice to try out. I know tobacco category stuff is pretty much out for me. I hate tobacco flavors and mixes more every day I stay away from them (and the analogs) so those are out. I don't have a ton of experience with the candy flavors- maybe that's next on the list.

I think now would be the perfect time to get going with my own mixing as well. Measuring supplies, base, and bottles are good to go. All I need now are some recipes and flavorings- both of which are easy to find.

Lori- Great suggestion on asking for the help of fellow canadians. I'll find the right forum/thread and pose it to them. Thanks so much for the idea!
