Ok. This is my first post, but I'm going to try make it a legitimate one.
So probably like most everyone else here, I decided I was tired of smelling like an ashtray all of the time and being utterly out of breath after climbing just a few flights of stairs. I was ready to give this whole vaping thing whirl. Being a pretty obnoxious geek in most respects, I set out to research all of the options and just start with the "best" starter unit I find/afford, not wasting money the gas station versions. Well, after about 8 - 10 hours of reading forums (including this one) and browsing vendor sites, I had a headache from trying to reconcile all of the contradicting "reviews" and filter out the information on long outdated models.
So I started over and, instead of trying to find the "best", I tried to figure out what I really wanted out of my PV and go from there. Easier said than done having no vaping experience whatsoever. So here's the list I started with about a week ago:
1) It's got to just work - If I've got to screw with it all of the time, I'm not interested. This isn't a hobby...at least not yet.
2) I don't want to spend a significant portion of my life messing around with carts, pulling, cleaning, stuffing, dripping who knows how many times a day. - (see #1)
3) I want to think I'm smoking - I'm trying to quit smoking so I want to feel like I'm smoking...it makes sense to me anyway.
4) I don't really care if it looks like a cigarette, but I don't want to look like I'm sucking on the tailpipe of the Battlestar Galactica either.
To make long, drawn-out search short (too late, I know), I got a basic Joye eGo-T kit with Type B atty's. It came with 5 tanks pre-filled with Marlb 18mg, but I also got a small RY4 and, just to be a little wild, a small Red Bull, both 18mg. I got this all at pretty good price and utterly fantastic service/shipping from cignot.com.
After a whole 5 hours of vaping, I'm pretty happy with how it operates - I'll leave it at that since I have no significant experience and nothing but cigarettes to compare it with. (The noob guide here on how puffing a PV is NOT like puffing an analog was most helpful.) With the Exxon Valdez sized tanks though, I'm still working on the first one.
I am however already seeing why everybody says that you probably don't really want tobacco flavor that most definitely won't taste like a cigarette. Why taste cigarettes if I don't have to? In fact, I can't stand the smell of smoke and I drink coffee/soda constantly because I hate the taste even more. (I'm sure you're wondering why was I smoking in the first place. If you can figure that one out, let me know.) If you're a noob too and haven't yet bought a bunch of juice, take it from me, the freebie stuff that comes in your tanks will be enough "cigarette-like" flavor - branch out early.
All-in-all, I have to say that this is the first time I've ever actually been excited about the prospect of quitting smoking. In fact, now that I think about it, I haven't had an analog since I opened up the mail. Not exactly a lifetime achievement, but you know what they say about a journey of a thousand miles. I'm not deluding myself by thinking I won't ever light up again, but I definitely don't have that "last smoke" panic setting in at all.
So, good luck to me and everyone else out there trying to kick the chimney sticks.
