Ok, awhile back I bought the mini reo on the classifieds. Not that it matters, just throwing out that info.

Here lately it doesn't always fire. I will hit the button, all is well, then next time or two it won't do anything, then it works again. Hubby put more of that noalax stuff on it last night, thinking that was the issue (plus it would make a smallish spark against the battery so it needed it I guess-yes, I am clueless here!) Anyway, it has not corrected the issue. When it works, it works great, and the majority of the time it does work.

Is this something I am doing wrong? The only time I have any "firing" issues on my grand is when my thumb pushes the button over just enough it doesn't fire. But I know when I do that. I haven't noticed myself doing that with the mini. And like I said, hubby put the stuff on it last night, so that part should be good.

It isn't a major issue since it does work, just a minor inconvenience at times. Thank you for reading and any suggestions are welcome :) I will be back later on today to catch up on here but for now it is errand time before the kidlets are out of school!

I would do as mudflap said. Are you using AW IMR 14500s? You may also after scuffing up the anode of your battery, apply a little noalox to the anode, not too much, just a dab, and smear it evenly so that you know that the pin is hitting the noalox. if that doesn't solve the issue it may be time for you mini to take a vacation to Maine :)

I had a similar thing happening with my Mini recently - It would fire inconsistently enough that I knew something was up. When I first got it, I got in the habit of giving the button an anti-clockwise twist every so often, "just because", so I knew that wasn't it. I have a metal-brush fitting for my Dremel, so I used it to scuff up my firing pin (on the lowest RPM setting), gave it a dab of Noalox, and it's been perfect! Even better than when I first got it. I'm guessing that an emory board would serve the same purpose but, as a guy, I don't have any of those floating around.. :)

I suffered with this same problem awhile back. I understand your fustration. I used 900grit sand paper on my batts and it would cure the problem for about a week or so then the same thing would happen again. Or removing the batt and replaceing it would work for a little while as well. But what cured it for me completly was adjusting how I pressed the button. Instead of pressing straight down in the center. I now apply presure more on the atty side of the button above the lock pin. Pushing it down and slightly away from the atty side. Sence doing this I have not had one miss fire and don't have to mash the button. I think it was slightly catching on the rail or the pin was'nt qwite droping where it should have. IDK but it worked for me and I havent sanded a batt sence?

Good Luck and let us know what you find!!!!!!

I know you've had plenty of help/suggestions, but I'm with bushmaster....give it a nice, long bath in HOT water. A squeaky clean metal REO is a happy REO. I was having a little bit of the same problem with my Grand, and (I'm so neurotic!) I sent it in to Rob who.....gave it a bath. Fixed. So now, I keep my Grand and my Mini on a regular bathing schedule, re-apply a bit of Noalox, and they both work perfectly all the time.

Couldn't agree more a good cleaning and re-noaloxing should be one of the first procedures attempted after metering when performance starts to go south. If that doesn't work then attempt further trouble shooting as suggested.
