Today, I managed to make my first workable coil. 26g kanthal wire, 10/9 wraps around 2.77mm, 1.3 ohms, firing at 11 watts. It takes a really long time to heat up to actually produce much vapor, and even then it's not giving off as much as the one a shop made for me. I can't go below 1.2 ohms cause I'm using an MVP 2. Any tips to make it better?

Mark, you might get something out of this video I made for another thread about Kayfuns.

I see you are using a W type dripper. For a dual build @ ~1.5Ω you would need to use 7~8 wraps of 32 ga Kanthal on a ca, 2mm form. Try a toothpick or the little blue screwdriver that probably came with your atty —the toothpick is easier; cut it in two and use half for each coil until you have them secured and tested.

Hang on and I'll be back with some pics in a few minutes.

yup I had some pinkish juice in there. And I was just in a hurry to get some wire, and my local vape shop only had 26g. If they had 28 I would've gotten that. I'll check there in a few days and see if they've got anything else. The atty came with something ridiculous like 34, that coil wasn't even worth the hassle it took to build it

Is dual coil worth the little bit of extra effort? I was told not to go dual coil on my MVP but it seems as long as i keep the ohms high enough it shouldnt be an issue

Dual coils on that atty (3 post configuration) will give you a more even performance and more vapor. However, if you prefer, and for that resistance value ( >1.2Ω ) it probably doesn't matter. I did that because I wanted to show you how fast you can coil a dual with a little practice. Don't dispair. :)

Make sure you verify your dual coil setup isn't pulling too many amps as well, don't recall the limit for the mvp off the top of my head, but you may need to build dual coil up to 2ohms to get good performance. At 2 ohms, use 32ga wire... 28 coil at 4ohms (dual coils cut your resistance in half) would be giant, and my not fit in the atty.

A good solution is to increase internal diameter (ID). No way to do that high Ω with 28 ga but 30 will give you a 2Ω dual (4Ω ea.) with 11 wraps on 3mm. Huge but manageable on a 22mm atty. It will suck juice like a 6mo calf tho. ;)

32ga is the recommended for 1.2 to 2Ω. a 2mm coil pair should work pretty well. OTOH, a mech atty (one of those $20-odd Nemies are great) will fit a three post atty like a glove. I love the Origen v2 and the Helios but if I were buying now I'd get an Infinite CLT.

PS, calculator here.
