So I got all my ingredients together a couple of days ago and thought I should start my DIY journey as simply as I could so decided to make a single flavour 10ml batch, it's turned into a disaster lol....

Heres the the numbers I used. Nic vg base 72mg 2ml, pg 3ml, vg 3ml, flavour 2ml Capella green apple..... Was aiming for around 50/50 14mg 20% flavour what I have dead up with is basically no flavour.... I read somewhere that too much flavour can cause a muting of flavours so I cut the mix in half and made a flavourless batch 5ml same nic/pg/vg % and mixed it with the original now I have no inhale or exhale but 10 seconds after exhale you can taste the apple kind of.. Don't know what else to try other than start again unless anyone has any ideas lol I didn't expect it to be perfect first time but also didn't expect to be this bad

I'm no expert on DIY, pretty new to it myself, but I've done a lot of reading here. I think 20% is too much as a starting point for a single flavor. I don't know how to find it, but someone posted a link for a spread sheet with flavor percentages from different vendors that was very helpful in making single flavor testers. I'll go back through some of my older posts and see if I can find the link for you. Might come up with a diy spreadsheet search

It kind of helps but it says for Capella green apple 14.50% then 9% then 20% lol
Made a new batch this morning just 5ml at 12mg nic 50/50 vg pg and 10% flavour

Think the taste I was getting in 1st batch was the smell you get when you open a nic bottle if it continues to be like that for much longer I will be contacting the vendor as maybe the nic I bought is the problem

I know most of my first attempts have been fairly low percentages - mostly 10% flavoring at the most. I've dabbled with multiple flavors, and even with that, I'm keeping total flavors < 15% But, I'm not measuring very precisely either. I also mix at 0 nic because I just add a few drops when I fill a tank. That way, I feel like I'm getting a purer flavor without the nic. Try mixing a 0 nic batch to get your flavor kind of where you want it. Then, if you want to add nic, you should be able to drop the PG/VG component and sub with your nic.

The starting percentages are all over the board. I guess my take is start low and then add a drop or two to enhance. I don't steep per se. My mixes will sit for a few days as I rotate through other flavors, but I've been pretty lucky that just about all of my mixes are fine (for me) fresh. I've had a couple which significantly improved after sitting for awhile, but normally, I'm too impatient and want to vape as soon as possible :)

I suppose as long as I learn from what I did it wasn't a complete disaster lol I have put this one in a box and I will check on it later

Time to go shopping get some other flavours and try again I guess... I like the no nic idea will def give that a try

You could make up like a 5ml bottle of pg/vg with or without nicotine, then add 5ml from your first batch that would give you about a 10% flavor.

I have a basket full of other flavour providers online right now lol

Be sure to read the "mega threads" here in the forums for each flavor provider. Hangsen, Inawera, FlavourArt, etc. each have a very large thread with people posting their thoughts/percentages. Very helpful threads.

I'm pretty new at the whole process myself. I've been diy'ing for a few months now. I've found that staying at 1.5% or lower is best, but that's just in my limited practice. Some of my juices are great (to me) some are not so great. Haven't had any that I couldn't taste the flavor in at all. It does help--again, in my opinion--to start out by following recipes that have been successful for others, although I too tried doing single flavor mixes at the start like you. I try now following recipes in an attempt to get a feel for how to mix multiple flavors. It's a little more challenging, but fun.

If your first one didn't work right (and you did a small bottle, smart move) I think I'd set it aside instead of messing with it. You could dilute it or add more flavor and still never get it right. the great thing about DIY is when you get something that really doesn't work for you, it isn't going to be painfully expensive to say -- nope, next.

That was my thoughts exactly I have lost what maybe 10ml maybe a little bit more that's nothing and I have learnt from the experience which is the main thing when getting into DIY.. I wrote down all my measurements and percentages for that first batch as well so that will help. I have put it in a box and will check on it from time to time

Some of the percentages are tiny on inawera flavours !!! Especially seeing I was at 20% on my 1st batch of Capella which obv hasn't worked lol

Drops are a hard thing to measure by tho, no 2 people will apply the same pressure on a syringe/pipette/bottle so no 2 peoples drops are exactly the same
