Hi guys, this is my first post in this forum. The title isn't exactly correct, I've re-built numerous heads for clearos and my vivi novas, although I'm not an experienced builder, I feel comfortable with those and am happy with the results.

I just got an atty (stillare) that will allow me to build a dual coil, it is my first 'official' dripping atty. I've had those little ego attys before, but never an rda. Okay, so...

Here are two pictures of the build I did today. I was aiming for 1.4 ohms, and that worked well (used the coil toy calculator thanks to the people on the forum here for pointing it out). I am using rayon for the wick.

Sorry it's a little blurry.

I trimmed the wicks and wet the wick and tucked the ends down in the well.

Now....

at first it provided killer flavor to the point it was over-powering but no vapor at all (but it wasn't broken in at all, that was the first few minutes).

then and ever since... decent vapor but little flavor, and even the vapor is just okay, not really great.

The airholes are right in front of the coils.

Any ideas?

I'm using this on a vamo v5. I've tried various volt settings and even switched over to watts and used it at various wattage settings. Seems to work best at 11 watts, or 5 V, but it's okay at 4 to 4.5 volts too, a little less vapor still in the lower settings, but flavor remains roughly the same at all times.

Anything with the build you guys can point out. I don't know if the pictures are clear enough to help much.

The only thing I can see is that your coils are very far apart. I would read up/ watch youtube videos about building a good micro coil. IMO you will get better results with a coil where all the wraps are touching each other tightly.

this video shows how to make a good micro coil. Follow the steps, but you want your leads going the same since you are using an RDA not a kayfun...

Also, you will need to do a lot more wraps on a dual coil setup to get enough ohms for the vamo. Make sure you watch where he heats up his coils and squeezes them with tweezers to get the coils close together.

My guess is too much Kanthal going on for the Vamo to properly power. What batteries are you using? Even with my Vamo cranked all the way up to 15 watts it did not like dual 1.4 ohm 28 gauge coils. It would not get them hot enough. My 4mm single 28 gauge coil has gaps on the Magma with rayon at 2.0 ohms and it hits legit. I am using stacked Efest purple 18350s. I use a single 28 gauge 2.0 ohm 3mm vertical coil on the Tobh.

Hi Nick, a single 18650. I don't have a 'married' pair of 18350s to use. I've heard that gives a little extra power, but probably still not enough for the vamo to do this. I'll tear down and rebuild to see if I can get a better result. thank you ALL for the comments. I really appreciate it.

30 guage

I pulled out the second coil and just used the single coil. It is now 2.6 ohm (30 guage wire) and working much better, although I'm still a little disappointed in the flavor. I'll try a 2 ohm build with the next one. Maybe with fewer wraps it will do even better. I just thought having the extra wire would mean more flavor, but I guess not with the vamo. LOL I'll have to save the bigger builds for a mech. :)

If I have a chance I will try a dual coil build this weekend with the stacked batteries and report back. What gauge wire are you using?

that would be cool when you get the chance... it would be nice to know if it could handle any level of dual coil with a stack.

Won't the amp limit on the vamo get in the way before stacked batteries make any difference on a dual coil? I'm not a vamo owner, I'm assuming it's like most other PVs in that class. I guess at 1.2 ohms it may not be too much draw... I don't dual coil that high personally.

I don't know... lol. I'm pretty darned new at this for the most part. I just now took the remaining coil out and rebuilt it with 30gauge at 3mm, 7 wraps for a 1.9 (probably 1.8 when it breaks in), with cotton wick. Nice vapor. STILL not blown away by the flavor, but I think I used too much cotton before, now I think I may not have used quite enough. And I thought wrapping the coils was going to be the hardest part. haha just try to get the cotton balance right.

Edited to add, replaced the wick with a little thicker cotton. Much better flavor. Touchy, touchy, touchy. LOL

What were your settings on the Vamo? Watts or Volts, and how high did you go?

I was all over the place with it trying to find a sweet spot. LOL I switched between power and voltage, went up and down the ranges on both sides. Found areas that were better, but none that were great.

Now running the new coil and wick, I'm getting good vapor and decent flavor (I hope to someday experience the 'better than a tank' flavor I've read about), at about 4.8 v
