hey there everyone! after a 1.5 year analog relapse courtesy of my pain circumstances changing; i am finally back into vaping. (8 days!!!!)
and for any of you with the aspire revvo tank, you know how much that thing loves its juice.
I'd been wanting to get into diy probably since i got my silver bullet all those years ago.
With my disability, DIY isnt feasible without a second person.
So i managed to swindle my best friends hubby and best male friend to make the jump to DIY with me.
and yesterday i made us all juices, thanks to anyone on the "the flavoring apprentice flavoring thread". I am currently sitting on page 274 of 769 (aka around post #5500).

buttery nipple
16% butterscotch
8% irish cream
2% van bean gelato
smells like it needs to sit for another 2 days for the irish cream to behave.

my take on BMV's ADV cinnamon danish
10% cinnamon danish
6% bavarian cream
5% cotton candy/em
2% van bean gelato.
smells ready, but i'm scared :p

Turned BMV's mango custard into ice cream
11% mango
4% cotton candy/em
7% van bean gelato
5% bavarian cream
tasted gorgeous, but light to me, right out of the can. Friends hubby (his flavor) cant taste it.

winged a menthol for the other one
4% pom extra (may up to 5% tomorrow)
7% peppermint (notes to up to 8% if the menthol takes over)
5% menthol
1~% cotton candy/em
1~% bav cream.
smells like it'll be perfect tomorrow.

i basically only have the flavors used. Saying that, i also have horchatta. Im thinking it may have a place in my take on the cinnamon danish at 1%...

any input at all? i'm trying to complete the recipes list from the thread before the boys lose interest, so i dont have time to read other threads right now.

I think they look nice, I also think that some of the total percentages may be on the high side (for me) but if you are coming from commercial juice and smoking, they'll probably turn out fantastic. You look like you did a lot of work.

Is there a reason they're all TFA, like did you think you'd find an easier time working with all one set of flavorings, etc? I'm just curious (and it may not be a bad strategy at all, frankly) or do you like commercial flavorings using that flavoring company or what?

I don't have a ton of SUGGESTIONS for you, but tons of ENCOURAGEMENT go go go, if that makes any sense.

I might give that Mango Custard a shot. Sounds like my cup of tea.

I've read several times that it's not a good idea to use Cotton Candy at more than 1%. Can't remember the reason exactly. It mutes flavors or something. So I never tried going higher than that.

@ames001, congrats on your return to vaping!

I cut my DIY teeth on that TFA thread (and the associated TFA only recipes thread). There is a lot of good people, who shared a lot of useful advise.

The only caution I might offer; is to keep in mind, that those recipes were developed using much older hardware. Higher resistance, lower power, lower airflow, was the norm for that time. You might find that the recipes could be over-flavored for today's newer setups.

If the initial results don't taste like you were expecting them to, consider mixing up a small batch of unflavored base (just PG and VG to your preferred ratio; along with nicotine at your preferred strength). This can be used to easily, and quickly dilute an over-flavored recipe, without affecting either nicotine strength or PG/VG ratios. Like most things DIY; test out dilutions on a small amount first, before committing more/all of your resources.:D

On the other hand, some folks like stronger, more heavily flavored, DIY e-liquids. Especially those who recently made the jump from cigarettes, to vaping. As well as some commercial e-liquid fans. Those may be fine for you just as they are.:)

There is very little true "right & wrong" in DIY. Only what is right for you. It takes a little time, practice, and patience, to find what you will like best. Don't get discouraged. Don't give up. And, you will learn what works best for you.

You are off to a good start. We are all rooting for you! Let us know how the work out. :D

between here and there
For today's gear, those % look a little high but I understand you may still be using the older gear. If you do have flavors you cannot taste, there is such an animal as 'over flavoring can cause you to taste nothing'. Sounds counter-productive but it is true. Something about our taste buds go neutral when too much taste happens. So @IDJoel is correct in saying to dilute them and the taste will return.

Good luck and keep up the mixing.

:)

ETA also on the peppermint, I wanted to say that too strong and it will probably either taste like vic's vapor rub, and/or cause you to not taste anything at all(even food) for a couple of hours......friend downstairs from me found that out real quick(instead of asking..lol)

Your doing fine.
Brother Bob's Mix Too Strong Test: 1/11/18
In order to test if I'm using too much flavoring, I find it helpful to vape unflavored (any ratio or just one or the other) PG/VG in a RDA. After vaping unflavored a while and cleaning up my palette, I then place one drop of my mix in a RDA over my (2-3 large drops in the RDA juice well) unflavored and see if I can taste the flavor. If I can taste the mix flavor over an RDA of unflavor, chances are my mix my be over percentage strong. If I still do not taste my mix shinning through after 2-3 drops over my 2- 3 drops unflavored, my mix is most likely ok as is.
I do not sub ohm so I don't know if this test will work for your settings.
I'm vaping zero nic, so it always easier to thin down my mix, rather than trying to strengthen it.
TFA like other blenders have some excellent top of the line flavors, good choice to start.

Absolutely agree. That's why I went with TFA flavors. So much knowledge and help on offer in one place. It made getting started so easy.

the commercial brand i was buying in the states, was the only brand that tasted anything like proper to me.
that commercial brand basically only used tfa. which lead me to the 769 page thread with all tfa recipes... and um yeah :p
ive got 42 pages of word document already, from being at page 285 (now) with all tfa recipes :)

while i'm using the aspire skystar + revvo, the boys are both on Smok alien 220's. one with the original baby beast tank and i think the other one uses one of the bigger newer smok tanks from that range (dont know smok).

all batches were 10ml. nice middle ground between super small batches, and batches big enough to use full graduations on my syringes; as i cant sit still very long (chronic pain)

i tried the mango custard turned ice cream yesterday and it was getting better.
tried the modified bmv cinnamon danish last night with a cheesecake primed coil (its as close as i'll go to unflavored.... unflavored just tastes wrong) ive never been a cinnamon vape person; and yesterday i thought it might need to be further adjusted. But i filled up my tank and let it sit overnight. Might actually be good enough to make 30 ml of it, as is.
The boys are menthol freaks.... they tend to add menthol thats so strong it "kills" them if its straight, on top of ALL their already minty or menthol juices... so i was trying to go strong enough that they dont need the menthol shot juice.
that menthol mix gets tried today. and if the mango still hasnt woken up for the one fella, i'm going to tell him to add 1/3 pom mint explosion to his mango.

i love how, even at the totally newbie level.... buying the smallest bottles that make sense for mixing for 3 people (10ml flavoring, smallest bottles of everything else) that its still only 5-6$ an oz plus bottle... vs 13-17 an oz at b&ms.

anyone have a horchatta ice cream (basically a creamed version of the original horchatta) that they make... or have input on say 4% horchatta and 2% van bean gel, and bav cream? theres been hardly any mention of the regular horchatta on the aforementioned thread so far; and it smells so good i wanna mix it down!!!

as well as a 10ml of pom ice cream - 5.5% pom deluxe.
pom menthol, gorgeous. but he wants me to try flipping the mints around.
my cinn danish is lovely, but i made one where bav cream and danish were switched; to see which one i want to do 30ml of :)
tomorrow i blend up pms... subbing pineapple out for pom deluxe. i'll post it once ive found the recipe :p im not even sure which part of the recipe file its on

I don't know if you remember (you had posted on the thread before it closed); but there is a TFA recipe-specific thread that sort of goes hand-in hand with the 769 page general discussion thread. Here's the link:
TPA/TFA Recipes only!
It is only:)facepalm:) 96 pages. There is a fair amount of overlap. But, there are some recipes that appear on one, and not on the other.

OOOOH! does anyone have the original JACE recipe? i found JACE "revived" or whichever (with creams added) but i dont know if the j.a.c.e components were the same percentages :/
Here ya' go:
TPA/TFA Recipes only!
"JACE:
6% Juicy peach
5% Apple
3% Champagne
2% EM
Nice and tasty with more of a real fruit taste not so much a fruit candy taste"

Recipe courtesy of @Neabez

thank you, thank you, thank you!!! i never actually looked at that version of it, both times (when i was active on the discussion to get my kir royale, and now.) i shall definitely have to do that!

my excitement about jace was what got me the second sets of hands to start diy.
sorry i didnt see this sooner to express my gratitude! i've been crash coursing myself again on the discussion thread so i kinda know what to expect, and only scanning alerts.

i should also mention that i took the same "ice cream" part of my take on BMV's mango custard and did pom deluxe as well.
at 5.5%, on top of the above "ice cream" it is to freaking die for.

was silly and switched the bav cream and cinn danish %'s in my take on bmv's cinn danish. wasnt my best idea. its very much vapeable, and it'll do me till the proper recipe has sat for 24 hours.... but its not fantastic

Another good resource for TFA concentrate tutorials; is Bill's Magic Vapor's blogs. He, at one time, actually mixed commercially (don't know if he still does). He described his mixing style as high flavor mixing ((HFM) because he routinely mixed between 20 to 30+%. His blogs don't show in a general search any more (not sure why). But, are still available on ECF; using the link above.

He gives very thorough explanations of what, how, and why, he preferred to mix. When you have the time (and inclination); take a look. If his style of mixing looks like it might be up your alley, PM me (use the "Start a Conversation" ECF link), and I can send you a file that has dozens of his recipes gathered together. :)
