I never thought I'd get a dripper.

Tank systems always seemed easier due to having to refill less frequently, and I'm a low maintenance kind of guy. Having to occasionally clean tanks and change batteries is about as much trouble as I wanted to go to.

I used various Protanks for a long while, until I discovered Kayfuns. I rebuilt my heads in the Protanks and tried various builds in the Kayfuns, and although I saw small improvements along the way, I never could get the vape I was looking for. I remember cigarettes as being warmer and more dense than vaping, and while vaping successfully got me off the smokes from the very first day, I never quite got the same feeling or satisfaction. I've always tried for a warm-to-hot vape, and also bigger clouds (not to show off so much, but to get the feeling of filling my lungs).

So, while browsing various online vape stores the other day, looking for something new to try, I broke down and bought an IGO-W and a couple of the Efest purple 18650's just to check out the experience. Vapemail arrived, and I sat down with my supplies, did the calculations, and built a sub-ohm dual coil wicked with cotton:

28 gauge Kanthal
0.5 Ohm (2x 1/16" 9/8 wrap coils @ 1 Ohm each)
8 Amp draw and 35 Watts with fully charged 4.2V Efest 18650 purple.

First time sub-ohming, first time building a dual coil.

Initial experience wasn't great, because the IGO-W's stock air inlets were small enough to be measured in micrometers. It was like trying to suck a 747 through a syringe, and the topcap got so hot I couldn't touch it. So I grabbed my handy drill, and bored both air holes out to 1/16". Cleaned everything out, rebuilt the coil, loaded up with juice and OH MY GOD THIS THING HITS LIKE A TRUCK. :vapor:

Warmer, quicker draw, and I can fill my lungs with it. Yeah, this is the vape I was looking for, or close enough to it. So I guess I'm a dripper now.

Any tips for a newbie? I'm still using the 80PG/20VG 12mg I was using before - I'm thinking about dropping down to 6mg. I've already got some 50/50 12mg I plan to try.

EDIT: I can't seem to get more than 2 or 3 pulls without having to re-drip, is there any way to extend this?

Raise your resistance or get another RDA. I like the Magma:

* Specifications

* Deep juice well - 40 drops (~1 mil)
* Flat head screws
* Single or Dual coils
* Small to large airflow (1mm-2mm-3mm) Large = (3/32)
* Airflow comes up underneath coil
* No o-rings - screw top

* Todds Review - Magma RDA by Paradigm Mods

I am going to try hard to stay away from the warnings on this thread
Ruh roh. I thought I'd researched this pretty thoroughly - what'd I miss?

my current drip e-juice is 95VG/5PG at 6mg nicotine. The higher VG really brings on the clouds and makes the throat hit practically disappear giving a very smooth vape which works fine for me.
Yeah, I do prefer a bit of throat hit; I might not go quite down that far. I'll see how the 50/50 works out. Do you still get good flavor without the PG there to carry it?

Thanks, I'll check that out. When I got the IGO-W and realized it wasn't a 22mm atty (I have a nemi clone) and had poor stock airflow, I did a little more research and ordered an IGO-M, so I've got that coming too.

One thing that sucks about dripping is once you start your RBAs start to fade feels like no vapor or flavor comes from them anymore.....
Yeah, not sure I can go back to even my Kayfuns after this...

Flavor on high VG juice is still definitely there. Try a 80%+ VG juice and you will see the difference. It's less sharp and more filling / smooth if that makes sense.

As far as how to get more pulls before dripping you just need to find a wicking setup that works best for you. Everybody has there own opinion but I fall in the "the more the better" side of the argument when it comes to cotton. Literally every part of my RDA deck is filled with cotton except for the spot between the coil and airflow hole.

Larger coil with larger wire means you can get more wick in there.
This was going to be the next thing I played with. I've stuck with 1/16" coils for a long time due to build in smaller things like Protanks and Kayfuns - time to open it up a bit.

Yeah, that was kind of what I was going for in the pictured build, but I didn't get enough in there. Was too concerned with trying to tuck it under the coils.
