I'm very happy with my K100 clone. Been using it for a few months now with no issues whatsoever. I did apply a small amount of Noalox to all contact points when I first got it. Don't know if that helped any because I didn't try it first without it.

You didn't say which 18350 imr you have. I think most IMR will be OK for this application considering the kick, but if it's a no-name brand you will not know how many amps it can output safely. If it was my setup I would want to have a battery capable of handling 6 amps discharge. Without the kick I would look for more than that.
In case you don't already know this, the resistance of the coil and the battery voltage determine how many amps it will draw from the battery. Here is a
online Ohm's law calculator. You plug in volts and ohms and it tells you the rest. If you draw more amps than the battery can deliver it will heat up. That's bad. Get it hot enough and it will become unsafe not to mention that it will destroy itself eventually. The kick will keep you safe as long as it is working properly. Without the kick in there you need to run the numbers yourself.

Basic safety for using a mecnaical mod is to know the resistance of the coil you put on it before firing it. I use a digital multimeter. Know what the battery can output and don't over work it. Keep an eye on the battery voltage when you take it out to charge and when it comes off the charger. The kick will make things safer than if you didn't have it, but I would want to be aware of these details also.
