Hi Everyone,

Well after almost 2 years vaping (this October ) I thought I'd have a go at mixing my own liquid and saving some money so am after a little advice if possible please (just to make sure I've understood things correctly)..

Ok I usually vape an icy menthol 1.8% 10ml so would like to try and replicate this so are these the correct bits I need? I want to make it as simple as possible and all products would be bought from Creme de vape.

So I'm thinking the following :

100ml DKS "Ultra" mixing liquid - "Otto" 0.8% 50/50 £10.95
DKS Flavour Concentrate - Menthol 10ml £3.95
Creme de vape Mixing Enhancer - Cooling Agent 10ml £2.95

Plus sundries (Graduate pipettes, 10ml bottles).

On the advice listed for a 10ml bottle of my Icy Menthol I would use the following :

9ml of the Otto liquid
3-6 drops Flavour concentrate (per 10ml)
1-5 drops Mixing Enhancer (per 10ml)
1 X 10ml bottle

So have I got everything I need? If so I've worked out a 10ml will cost approx £1.60 ish...bargain!!!

Thanks for all replies....

Best wishes Glenn W

I am fairly new to mixing, and I am not familliar with any of those flavors, DKS or otherwise. I have learned, however, that it is easier to mix in larger batches. I mix in 250ml batches, so if I need to make a change, I can do the math a bit easier. Instead of drops, I use millileters. This is *my* method of mixing.... there is no correct way, but the basics you need to adhere to.

First, find your mixing base. I chose a 60mg/ml solution, since it's safer to work with. I forego an exact PG/VG target, since I prefer a fairly high VG mix.. specifics aren't vital to me. Therfore, my flavors and nic are PG based, but I add VG as the bulk.

I like a %15 flavor solution, and 6mg target nic. What the %15 flavor ends up to be, is dependent on what I want to make.

Let's take my current batch of yummy vanilla custard with some english toffee mixed in as an example. Last time it was good, but not enough of the toffee flavor came through. So I head over to steam-engine.org and click on the juice link. Batch size is 250ml (I use a 250ml bottle to store the liquid in). Under the Target - Nicotine strength, I put in %6. Now to add the flavors... I add two flavors... This time I want %5 English toffee, and %10 vanilla custard. .. so under Flavoring, I click ADD then ADD again. Flavor 1, I chose %5, and flavor 2 I chose %10. For me, the calculations are done and I look at the mixing portion. 25ml Nicotine base, 12.5ml Flavor 1(english toffee), 25ml flavor 2(vanilla custard). I add those three, then fill the rest of the 250ml bottle with VG... shake for about 10 minutes.. then I'm done. I end up with a 75VG/25PG mix since all my flavors and nic base are PG based.

I prefer not to use drops, since drops can be different depending on the viscosity of the liquid. the 20 drops = 1 ml is assuming it has the consistency of water. at... I believe.. room temperature. Thicker VG based flavors might be more or less. I use syringe needles for the measuring. If I'm off by %5 on anything, it wouldn't be critical. I do wear gloves when mixing the nicotine, and I should've been wearing them when I added the flavors.. after some vanilla mix spilled on my hand, and I wiped it on my shirt, she thought I smelled like a cheap air freshener until I had to change my shirt. :)

Um...

I'm sorry to break this to you, but £1.60 per 10ml just ain't cricket.

(Sorry...)

You could buy premade Nicotine PG/VG from £4 per 100ml. (£11 for 100ml?>>?)
You could also be buying 500ml for £25.

Even 50p cost per 10ml is expensive.....

Now, I know this is just an experiment, but looking to the future.... :)

To get some confidence make a batch of unflavored with the same percents of nic, vg, and pg as a premix you like then mix 3 parts unflavored to one part flavored and give yourself a day or two to adjust to the taste and see how it goes. Most commercial pre mix has more flavoring then necessary. Today I use 1.5% of an all in one flavoring and it's all I need. My DIY costs 1.2 cents per ml, less than $30 a year. Today a batch takes about 20 minutes to make start to finish. I vape 7 ml per day and make 100 or 200 ml batches, 2 weeks or 4 weeks supply. Since the flavoring is not so strong I don't tire of it.
