ok guys, after weeks of research, I have made up my mind, and started saving for a first mod purchase.

So knowing that my budget is limited, I have 2 options for the mod and 2 for the rta :

this , or this +$40 for batteries and charger
and

this, or this

Any advice? which combo should I get?

Can't wait to give my PT2 and spinner a well deserved rest :p

Those choices are really very different. It boils down to do you want a box mod, or a tube mod. Both are good choices paired with a good SAFE battery. The battery should be the one thing you do not go cheap on. As for tanks, I prefer the kayfuns, but that is just a personal choice. Some will agree, some will disagree.

Read my post to " Authenic or clone?" That Surfrider looks a bit scary to me. Not sure if I'm supposed to put suppliers here, since they have a bunch....but..Vivid SMoke has Combo deals and Vape Royalty has great prices for quality clones (HCigar). I also get my Ultrafire 18650 battery's from an Ebay connection at $1.50 (yes that's right) a piece. No fakes and no function problems as some people are blowing smoke about (or vape, :))

Personally, I'd recommend the Hana over the Mechanical Mod. With the Mech, your battery's charge is dropping on every hit, so your power output is constantly changing (lowering).
With the Hana (or any regulated Mod), the battery charge is still dropping, but the Mod can adjust for that, so your vaping experience doesnt change.
The major difference between a regulated mod and a mech, is that the regulated mods have an ohm limit, so sub-ohming may not be possible. Mechs have no limits, but this means that while you CAN sub-ohm, you need to be VERY careful that your batteries can safely run at the amperage your sub ohm will pull. There are several sites that have calculators that you can put in your resistance and voltage (use 4.2 volts for a freshly charged battery) and they will calculate both power (Watts) and Amperage (Current).

Call me a wimp, but I'd favor the regulated mod over a mech mod. I have a 3.1ES clone, and I LOVE it. I'm hearing a bunch of talk about the SQ-uapes, but I haven't crossed that bridge.

With the Hana, you'd at least get an ohmmeter (if you don't otherwise have one - which you should if rebuilding :) ) Make sure you check out the Batteries and Chargers section for info about safe equipment.

Good luck!

Please do not use Ultra fire batteries. They are not safe. Check out Baditudes blogs for a comprehensive guide to battery safety. (Where's Susan when you need her?)

I appreciate the concern guys, i did my research and read the baditudes articles, several times :)

Then you can't possibly be saying that with a smile. Your face is worth the extra $10. Seriously man why take the chance when so many have weighed in on this. It is like saying it's cool I can totally take a little arsenic everyday I will be fine. Probably but what if your wrong?

And I agree on the hana and kayfun. Though I really want to try a squape. My mech has been collecting dust since I got my sigelei.

Safety and caution are a good thing. Being that my last 30 years in the Aerospace Industry as a Design Engineer under the scrutiny of the FAA and other inspectors. Flight Safety with component manufacturing and installation was number 1. I believe I'm starting to see scare tactics for profit here. I wonder...how many people here so concerned with every ones safety are driving right now with a cell phone stuck to their ear or texting while driving.....hummm..?

I'm a mech mod guy. I would pick the surfrider out of those two choices, because I love mech mods. Actually, I would get a XXIX. But I guess that surfrider is the next best thing.

ETA: I own a XXIX, which is a copper surfrider. It is probably my smallest 18650 mod. And it hits hard.
