Hello All -

As the title states, I am 15 days into vaping. Amazed at the learning curve there is to this whole world of vaping. Started doing it to get off of a PAD ( <--Look at me using the lingo already lol) habit I've had for 24 years. Haven't bought a pack since I started but smoked about 4 analogs in the first week as I transitioned. Happy to say I've gone 6 days without one so that's been a very good thing to come out of starting up with this new hobby.

Started with an eVic and bought a set of Evod PV's as backups. Bought a couple different tanks to go with everything. Went from an 18mg nicotine eliquid down to 9mg and now recently 6mg. Also, just picked up a Nemesis clone with a drip/rebuildable atomizer yesterday and that thing is amazing!

Wife's not too happy that I've spent about $600 in two weeks but I told her it will pay off in the long run if it keeps me from smoking. She agrees but is telling me to slow it down a little, it's still so new to me.

Well sorry for the long post but just wanted to get started on the forum. I've been reading these forums for about a month now and have learned so much. Still have a long way to go but I feel like I'm getting the hang of things so far.

Cheers!

Congrats on two weeks.

I was spending tons, but I eventually stopped. Maybe $600 if you include all the different e-juices. But I got multiple everything and a year of e-juice. You got to spend money to make sure that you are completely covered multiple times with everything. I was constantly worried that something would break and then I would be screwed.

I am over 2 months into it and I don't even think about cigs. You just need a few flavors that you like.

Cool man. I don't want to be the big downer on the whole thing, but in your post you say:

"18mg nicotine eliquid down to 9mg and now recently 6mg"

In two weeks...seriously. I think you should give things just a little bit more of a chance mate. In my opinion that is way too much of a decrease, way too quick. My plan is to stay on 2.4% for at least six months.

Welcome to ECF and to the lovely world of vaping! :)

And I fully agree with FourWinds here:

People smoke for the nicotine, but they die from the tar.
You are no longer inhaling tar. Or any of the other toxic and cancer-causing substances in tobacco smoke.

The nicotine is not the enemy. Especially not when you just made the switch from smoking to vaping. For a new vaper especially, the nicotine is your friend. Inhaling enough nicotine through your PV helps you to stay off tobacco cigarettes. Because you get the nicotine at least.

I do not mean to rain on your parade, but here it is:
What you are not getting from vaping are the other substances in tobacco smoke. The many chemical compounds that you have grown accustomed to. Including MAO inhibitors. And you will get withdrawal symptoms for those substances. Give it another week. Then those substances have left your body. - Vaping enough nicotine can tide you over until those withdrawal symptoms stop. - Vaping too little nicotine will not be satisfying. And that tobacco cigarette.. it will be waiting for you.... whispering "I can give you all that you want"

Do yourself a favor and do not lower the nicotine level too fast.

You are no longer getting the tar. That is the most important thing. And nicotine itself - without the nasty substances in tobacco smoke - is about as "dangerous" as caffeine.

Is there an echo in here?? Congrats and welcome to the yellow brick road. A few suggestions, slow down on the $, easy does it big fella. As it was said, watch the nic level. Been vaping a year and I started with 24mg....just mixed some DIY juice and for the first time it was 12mg....usually at 15mg. Remember, you smoked for 24 years....expanding your goal won't hurt. Good luck on the journey.

Woot woot! Congratulations!

I can relate. I smoked a PAD for 20 years. Think I'm around day 70 without cigarettes. I stopped counting. I still think of them occasionally if I'm drinking, but I love vaping more. Every other time I quit felt like a diet. lol ... I moved from 18mg to 12mg within a week. I mostly use 6mg now. Also learned within the first week I prefer mostly VG since I do not like throat hit. Go with what works for you, there's no one correct method. And as far as spending. Ugh, I don't even want to talk about that. One good thing, as new stuff comes in, I pass off my less favorite gear onto family members that are quitting. ... Sounds like your committed to this! You'll do fine.

Wow, thanks for all the welcome replies and advice. I agree with the nicotine-lowering sentiments. I do have a bottle of the 18mg and it's loaded in one of my evod's for when I feel like I need it but I've been really into just enjoying the flavors now. With that said, I think that even at the 6mg level, I'm vaping so much of it that I'm sure I'm still getting the equivalent to what I was getting before. Also, with the mechanical mod it produces so much vapor that the hits are about 5 times what I was puffing on with the eVic or the evod so I just wanted to break it in a little.

Either way, I agree with you all and I definitely appreciate the suggestions. I'm new and here to learn so any advice is something that I will do some research on and also some trial and error of my own and go from there.

One thing I might mention is that I already noticed that I'm not nearly as chained to vaping as I was with the cigarettes. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the vape (A LOT!) but if I'm with my kids or somewhere I just can't get my vape on, I don't start going into a nicotine rage. With the analogs, I was like a dope-fiend after 30-60 minutes if I didn't have one. Especially if I was "stuck" somewhere that I knew I couldn't get to one. With this, it's more like I want to enjoy it and relax. Not just hit it because I have to or because my body needs it. Hope I explained that right...

that sounds lovely, ieremia! :)
You sound as if you are really enjoying vaping. And yes, that is what vaping is good for.

With this, it's more like I want to enjoy it and relax. Not just hit it because I have to or because my body needs it. Hope I explained that right...

I know the feeling. And it is lovely, isn't it?

Congratulations and... listen to your body. You know best what nicotine strength is right for you. Whatever strength keeps you off cigarettes and happy--use that. Finding the right setup and some juices that you like is the most important part.

I started at 12 mg/ml and I'm still vaping 12 mg/ml. :D

Welcome aboard!

Thanks again all. After a week on 6mg, it seems to be a good fit for me. I still have bottles of higher strengths that I'll drip if I even start to think that a cigarette sounds good (which is rare). Usually, it's the smell of a fresh-lit analog that'll get me going but it wears off once the 2nd hand smoke gets me. Yuck...
