I have been a smoker for approx. 25 years. I had experimented with the disposable type e-cigs mostly just so that I could keep working at my desk without having to get up to smoke all the time. I smoked probably a little over a pack a day of Marlboro Reds. The e-cigs never really cut my smoking back. Last week at Christmas a friend of mine bought me my first real e-cig, an EVOD model and a couple bottles of juice. He knew I smoked strong cigarettes and the strength of the juice was 36mg/ml. Wow, I have smoked maybe 3 cigarettes since Christmas and am excited as hell that I have found something I love that works. After a couple of days of regular vaping I noticed the EVOD was not hitting well and thought it may be a wick problem. Being a gadget kind of guy I called the seller and he told me to change it with organic, unbleached cotton roll. I could not find any. All I could find was 100% unbleached cotton padding that goes in the making of a quilt. I said .... So I bought it anyway. I took apart the coil to where I could see the wire and wick. It was a very small wick, nothing on top of it. I cut a piece of the cotton padding, wet it, rolled it up like rolling a cigarette and placed it on top and put it back together. For about 2 hours it did not taste right. After about two hours the EVOD was hitting smoothly with a great taste. Can someone tell me if there is a problem with what I did for a wick repair and did I just get lucky as hell that it works so well. Anyway I have enough wicking material to supply the entire Eastern Seaboard for a year. Sorry for the long post, I am new to this and am learning as I go.

I have tried several types of wick material and notice that most have some kind of a flavor till they are "broken in." The organic cotton is recommended because it hasn't been treated with any chemicals that may be harmful if they are inhaled. I got a bag of the organic cotton balls at my local pharmacy for $4 that will last me a long time. Hope this helps. Welcome to ECF and to vaping.

No, I did not boil it first. Just wet it, rolled it, cut it to length, set it on top of other wick with wire wrapped around it. I suppose I should have boiled it?

I've only added silica flavor wicks on top of stock coils, nothing like what you've done, but yeah from what I've read you are supposed to boil the cotton first or else you might experience weird flavors.
