Greetings,
This is my first post. Well, actually my second beacuse I posted in anothers users thread thinking I could post a new thread.
I spent the last 3 days, sick in bed, researching e cigs. I almost immediately found this forum and haven't left since. I have tried to read and digest everything.

Background: Female mother of a 15 year old, smoked since I was a teen full time from age 18. I'm now 53. 35 years. It's time to quit. I've tried other methods, only to go back. The first time I saw e cigs was at a mall kiosk. The first thing I asked about was the safety of the product. They showed me some certificate from another country's lab. I wasn't impressed. That was about 8 months ago, just a few months before I was getting married for the second time around. I had a lot to focus on.

I really need to quit NOW so I decided to do my own research and found myself here. Thank you for clearing up all my questions about safety. I'm ready... but the info is so vast about all the products and methods I decided to start out trying the disposable first. They won't cost me any more than my reg brand of cigs. I haven't ordered yet. I thought I would get some varying nic levels and flavors. Smoke from one to one and half packs of KOOL's 100's in the blue pack per day. Appolo has good reviews on their disposables.

Thoughts and suggestions from the vaping community are welcomed! I really want to order today and get started. My goal is to quit smoking analogs, weaning off the nic, and throwing it all away. I don't care how long it takes as long as I keep moving toward my goal. I want to see my son grow up and see my grandchildren. I want to grow old with my new husband. He quit 15 years ago and has always encouraged me to quit but never hounded me. He knows how hard it is and told me my cravings will last for a year after I quit.

Each person is an individual so my journey will be my journey, I'm not making any assumptions about anything.

My user name menas: "the beginning" and "the end". The beginning of a new life as a non smoker. The end of smoking.

Thanks for the forum. I hope to get to know all you newbies and travel along this road with others. God knows I cant do it alone.

Welcome to ECF. Your story is similar to mine; I was 52 when I switched. What do you currently smoke? Disposables are a great try, but they do not last as long as they state they do. For a little more money, you can get a reusable. Many folks recommend Liberty Flights ego kit for $30 with the 20% coupon. Order some extra cartomizers and a couple of sample juices and you are set for a bit. Personally, I like Halo's starter kit because you get a nice variety of juices to try. And Vapor4Life has some good starter kits, and they have a ton of flavor options. Fell free to pm me with any questions you have once you get your initial 5 posts.
Best wishes!

Welcome to the ECF :) And congrats of beginning your ecig adventure. I agree with player's recommendation of Vapor4Life. They have acouple Menthol sampler packs that are worth looking into if you want to stay with the menthol flavor. I would recommend one thing though. Once you quit don't throw it all away! Like many smokers who quit, they have a bad day and start up again. I did this last year. I used ecigs to quit, only to start smoking again a few months later. I would suggest keeping your ecig and maybe some no to low nic juice around for when you have those bad days and just have to have a cig. That way you have the option to take a few puffs from your ecig instead of going out to buy a pack.
Good luck!!

Hi and welcome! This was a great post and one I can relate to as well. I wish you the best of luck in leaving the analogs behind...this is a very good place to start with so many helpful folks on these forums.

If you haven't already, please take a look at these 3 links from the "stickied" posts here in the New Members section...they can help clear up alot of the confusion about the differences between types of ecigarettes and what to buy when you're first starting out.

I've only been at this 3 days but one comment I can offer is that the wealth of information makes it seem more complicated than it is. I ordered a 510 starter kit from Halo. My head was spinning when I got it until I realized all you have to do is do is drop the juice in. It helps to blow out new atomizers and then prime with a drop of liquid. Charge and start puffing.

As others will tell you the 510 is considered somewhat of a "starter" device.

My other comment is make your expectations realistic. For me at least, the first puff from my ecig was a major disappointment. It didn't taste anything like a cigarette. But over 3 days it is starting to taste better, and by experimenting with different juices I will hopefully learn.

But I am not going back to analogs, and I never will, wouldn't even consider it. I may or may not give up vaping if it doesn't start to appeal to me more but I'll always have it as a crutch if I feel I need a nicotine fix.

Just crossed 72 hours, couldn't be happier. I hope you'll have the same experience.

I'm going to say right now that I HATE changing batteries more than once or twice a day. So, I HATE cigarette sized kits.

Take a look at the Riva 510 kits on Liberty Flights for a cheap non-cigarette sized kit with decent battery life. It's about the size of a Sharpie.

People have recommended Vapor4Life and those are good kits but, they are just KR808D1s. You'll get a better price at My Vapor Store. Vapor4Life is probably better for cartos though. Be sure to get manual batteries and a PCC (Personal Charging Case) to go with it.

Great Attitude you have there.. If the Disposables help you get started then it is a good investment. Downside is that they never last as long as they state. Sounds like you have a Good Husband there and you will need the encouragement.

Lots of people will tell you to skip the disposable I tried a couple myself and then got one at a mall Kiosk. Not Recommended. I would suggest after some trying the disposables picking up a better one. Lots of suggestions here for that.

Best of luck

Hey alphaomega - welcome to forum.

Great first post by the way.

You are going to do it. I can sense the determination shining through your typed words. You have chosen the right way to go in my opinion. I haven't had an analog for three weeks today. I feel great. I feel strong. I feel like i'm breaking free of something i just couldn't shake off.

Choosing the e cig route is gonna help you cope with cravings and it's going to help keep you calm.

However you choose to vape i would advise you to have 24mg nicotine content for the first few weeks at least. It will stop you feeling crazy with withdrawals. My biggest downfall in previous attempts to quit smoking has been my temper. I would go a length of time without cigarettes then something would go wrong and i would explode. And end up smoking again.
Since i been on e cigs (three weeks) i've been able to quite easily keep calm. My taste buds have began to work again. My wheezing (at night mainly) has cleared up.
A handy by product of e cigs is that there is a little faffing about. Like, topping up your cartridge with liquid. Or changing your batteries. It's all part of a new process that you'll learn.

Lastly i am sooo pleased that your man isn't pressurising you at all. What a decent guy. I would think thats another very good reason to make you want this to work.

I believe you're gonna do it. I wish you every success.

I have a similar smoking history and desire to quit analogs. I got my kit from mypvshop and have been very happy with the 510 and the customer service. I am down to one or two cig a day in just a couple of weeks with no real stress- really different from any other attempt I have ever made. Down to 2 cigarettes left and don't plan to ever buy anymore. However, I have just ordered a mess of diy stuff to make my own flavors and really excited to try this. I have NEVER been excited to smoke a cigarette. The users of this forum are absolutely awesome troves of info- every issue I have had has been resolved by searching for answers here. Even the way you draw on the ecig effects whether it is satisfying or not, so dont just try it and think it isnt working, look around and find the way others made it work. Good luck & happy vaping.

Noob here, 53 this year and smoking since 15 or so. I'm on day 12 without a cigarette and feeling pretty darn good. My road has been a little rocky due to hardware issues but I'm still hanging in there. For what it's worth I would advise you to give the cheaper e-cigs that look like real smokes and the disposables a miss, and go straight to a proper set up like 510, eGo etc. I have £50 ($83) worth of cigarette look alike on the shelf I will never use, vapour and battery life is pathetic. Good luck on your journey, I am convinced it is the right thing to do.

The most supported threadings are 510 for 3-piece ecigs and KR808D-1 (which is also Vapor4Life) for 2-piece

I recommend manual batteries

Joye 510 (standard size) has 180mah batteries which are at most 2-3 hours for a light to moderate vaper
Joye 510 mega xl has 280mah batteries for 60% more charge life, about 128mm long w/ a cartomizer
The 510 manuals are totally sealed on the threaded end so very safe from getting damaged or killed by juice leaks. Manuals also will not turn on by accident from wind or vibration and they give you more control of your hit.

KR808D-1 (LiteCigUSA.net, or in colors at Vapor4Life.com) standard battery size is 280mah, 120mm long w/ a cartomizer, slightly warmer hit than 510 if you use the WOW Vapor4Life cartos. Plenty of prefilled cartos but that is only a small benefit since all cartos need juice added to get reasonable life out of them.

If you need more than 280mah of charge then it's best to go to Riva 510 or Ego, fat battery models with a batetry that is fatter than the mouth section.

Hey Everyone,
Thank you so much for your support, advice and encouragement.

I ordered today from Vapor4life and got the KR808D with a bunch of carts. They supply 5 free, and I chose another sampler pack of fruit flavors. I figure I'm never far from an outlet so will try to keep on ecig charged and ready to go at all times. I'm going to start vaping and see if I can cut down on the analogs. Hopefully like many others I won't want the analog any more.

My worst time is first thing in the morning, so I got a high nic (18) pack of menthol. Then I got some 11mg strength in fruit flavors. I'm really looking forward to trying all the different flavors.

I didn't care if it lookes like and analog in fact I didn't want it to look like one, so I go the purple with the pink case.

My husband is an awesome man and he will be totally supportive when I tell him I am starting my journey to vape. I haven't told him yet, when I start vaping, then I will tell him I am quitting and this is my nicotine replacement method and explain all to him.

My son will also be soooooo thrilled. THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
