Hello from NJ. 5 year pack-a-day smoker now vaping about 3ml/day. Loving all the new toys. Standard progression of gas station e-cig -> ego battery and clearomizer -> Aerotank and VV battery -> Aerotank rebuilds -> Nautilus mini -> dark horse clone and mech mod -> landed on Cloupor mini and Subtank mini. Whew.


When I get my 5 posts in the bag, I'll post this in the proper thread, but if you're reading this and have an answer, feel free to chime in:

I've been using my Subtank mini with mixed results. I don't care too much for sub-ohm vaping on a regular basis. I bought the Subtank mini for the large tank, airflow, and convenience of the RBA deck. Here's my problem: The OCC coils and the occasional sub-ohm build with a low mg liquid (6 or lower) works great. Good taste, big clouds, etc. But I'm having trouble with higher resistance coils and higher mg liquid. With a 1.8 - 2.2 ohm build and 12 or 18mg liquid, I get the harshest vape imaginable. I'm talking totally disgusting, no flavor, and downright painful. What's the deal? I've tried different settings on the Cloupor - as low as 7 watts and as high as 20. I've closed off the airflow and tried mouth to lung, which helps a bit, but still tastes disgusting. Am I missing something?

FYI my two go-to high mg liquids are Freakshow Bed of Nails and a local tobacco blend (mildly sweet). The tobacco is 60% vg. Not sure about the Bed of Nails. They are both dark in color.

You've left out a good bit of information... like your build specifics. Wire gauge and single coils, or coil(s) in parallel have a dramatic effect on vape temperature, vapor production and flavor... when balanced against specific current outputs.

Click both the first and second hyperlinks below. With the Steam Engine coil modelling program, and the SE Advanced User Guide, you will learn the relationships between wattage applied and build variables... and how you may optimize those variables to obtain your desired coil temperature and overall performance.

Welcome to ecf! I'm glad you posted this question. I just got a sub tank mini and am having the exact same issues.!

With the 1.2 ohm included coil and 6 mg liquid at 3.7 - 4.0 volts it's unbelievably harsh with very little vapor the flavor is there though. I've read that it's not meant for mouth to lung inhales but I don't buy into that. I've tried it in all air hole positions, even almost closing it off for a more restricted draw. Still super harsh!

I even built the RBA to 1.3. Same thing through all voltage ranges. I can taste it but it's so harsh it feels like my throat is about to melt and not much vapor.


I'll be watching this thread to see some responses. If its ok with you (I don't mean to hijack your thread).

Greetings one and all. New member from Chicago. After 30 yrs of killing myself, been off analogs for three years now and thankful every day for it.

Currently using an iTaste MVP 2.0 with an EHpro Nano which is my first RBA. Currently waiting on an iStick 50w and Joyetech Delta II to try the sub-ohm game.

If you use the RBA section I know kanger was having some issues with one of the O rings on the rba section itself. The occ coils I've honestly heard nothing but good things about and have had a great vape off of the subtank mini myself.
