first RBA build: kraken clone single coil with eco wick. Coil hotspot/burning?

I've gotten my coils down beautifully. 1.14 ohms for example on this one. Dry burns awesome. I thread my wick, prime it up and test fire it. I can get a few pulls off of it then my coils always develop hotspots. Either the top coil, bottom coil or middle coil after a few pulls start to glow orange and burn. I'm getting good juice flow from my wick. This is my 4th attempt with a what seems to be great looking coil.

What am I doing wrong?

only theory i have is maybe my wick is too thin inside the coils causing unequal heat distribution?

That's exactly what it is it the coil needs to be hugging the wick a lot tighter I can see some of the coils look looser than others

Yep. The wick looks a little loose inside the coil.

Thanks guys. Going to try again here in a few with a slightly tighter coil. I'll post back with the results.

I didn't have any hotspots or anything but I just couldn't get the darn thing to wick properly.. kept getting dry burns. The wick hole is so tiny only a thin wick can fit through (that I could get through anyway) it just doesn't wick enough juice to stay wet.

Then again, that's been my experience with just about every genesis style atomizer I've tried to build.

Tried again using this method. Used cotton instead of the hemp wick. The hemp wasn't wicking well enough for the kraken at least.


I know it's been said before but i'll say it again. If your genesis is straight pissing you off in a frustrated rage. Try this. It works. It works great. I couldn't recommend it more. Me and my brother are now rocking Vela clones with kraken rba's and they're amazing.

The Caravela/Kraken clone combo is really nice, huh? I'm amazed we can get such an awesome combo for less than $30. I'm glad I ordered mine when I did because it looks like they're struggling to get stock back in... though I'm sure it'll come through eventually.
