I wipe out the inside of me reo regularly, but tonight I took the following steps.

1)removed Noalox with q-tip, removed battery and atomizer
2) wiped out all visible surfaces with vodka and dried with paper towel
3) emptied out and filled sunk bottle with vodka and squeezed through
4) made a warm water rinse of whole thing, but expecially around the bottom and underside of button
5) poured vodka up into area where button connection lives , shook out excess vodka and used q-tip to accelerate drying.
6) finally left reo and all parts to dry overnight.

Tomorrow:
1) I'll be reapplying Noalox with toothpick once I am certain the innards are completely dry.

Typos: "sunk bottle" = squonk bottle

So what'd I miss?

Doing good!!

#5..... I like to use 90-99.9% isopropyl alcohol as finish to the firing pin area squirted into firing pin area, several times, using a syringe with needle, and pushed in at top, into where the little notch is for the locking pin on button; then a shake and a not too strong burst of air from canned air. The alcohol will hasten the drying inside firing pin area AND I like to use the highest % isopropyl alcohol as it has the least amount of "contaminants" and/or water. We computer geeks (and other type geeks) use 99.99% iso alcohol for electronic parts even those we wash and rinse with distilled water.

That being said........... Many people have dropped metal REOs into water, shaken them, and reinstalled dry battery and used them immediately without issues. I don't recommend using a metal REO without letting firing pin area dry but it has been done. DH has dropped his travel REOs into "containers" of water more than once. One time, for sure, he didn't use alcohol after water, used REO immediately, and had no issues.

One other thing you can do to help protect the finish, mainly from tiny scratches, is to apply to the outside, a very gentle metal polish, without rubbing hard or at all, and then buffing. Some metal polishes and plastic polishes can be used on both metal and plastic. It will give just a thin film of protection. Flitz is my polish of preference for metal REOs.

I took the atty and battery out of mine obviously. Removed the plastic cover (held in by phillips screw) and removed the tube and button. Filled up a little bowl of 70% rubbing alcohol and.... dunk. Let the whole thing soak submerged in alcohol for probably an hour.. including the tube.

I was trying to remove a very strong DIY menthol. Afterward, I ran under very hot tap water and blew out any water that I could see. I then left it face down over the register with the A/C blowing on it all night. (the A/C removes moisture from the air) Got up the next morning put it all together and after a good bottle of my USA tobacco, the menthol was completely gone.

I will probably never do this again, unless absolutely necessary, but as long as it's not a VV, it is completely mechanical. What is there that it could hurt (other than the finish)
