First Time juice DYI using Supermarket Essesence- Nailed It!

I'm waiting for my HHV goodies to arrive in Australia (be nice Customs) but my juice supplies are running dangerously low. Luckily i have some VG, PG and 36mg Nic liquid. Went down to my local Coles and picked up some Queen Essences and Extracts based in VG. Using the Rum and a touch of Almond, and a spash of PG and Nic i made my first batch.

Wow! Straight up it's awesome. Can't wait for it to steep.

Next i'm gonna try a Strawberry Daquiri. I have some crushed mint from the garden steeping in PG. Gonna add the Rum, Strawberry and Nic and see how it comes out.

Never realised it could be so easy. The thought occured to me that at $1.09 for a 50ml VG based extract that we are actually getting ripped off by our juice suppliers

Anyone else found supermarket gold? Any flavors you'd recommend and stores with good selection.

Do you really believe they are ripping you off?

Think about it you have no overhead they do and not just the cost of what goes in the juice. Most business owners have to pay for raw materials, credit/check processing fees, employees, equipment, taxes, business license, fuel, advertising computers, printers, ink, paper and the list goes on. So lets say you spent $10k to open a business and on average you make $200 a day. However to grow you have to reinvest a big portion of that. It takes money to stay in business and you have to make much more then you put out or you wont even break even let alone grow to make it al worthwhile. So yea they make a killing to offset the numerous other costs they have to cover.

The very first ones i made were from supermarket extracts as well. While I could get a good flavor mix for instant use, by the next day, the flavor was too strong, and after a week it smelled like shoe polish! I hope yours handle steeping better than mine did.

Sorry, got carried away. Just got too excited about DYI.

Ok fair point about juice makers, they add value. Maybe i should have said small vg and pg bottles but you could make the same point again.
The whole custom liquid scene is cool and I do appreciate is little guys who work hard to make tasty juice.

Problem is that to be in the maunfacturing industry, you really need scale. Custom made is expensive. If a vendor had the volumes to justify, why wouldnt they get a third party food or pharma company to to do a run of 200 liters to get economies of scale. The cost per unit would be a fraction. I wonder how they would make it? PG? VG? Nic? Double Strength?

I am still hanging for my HHVs to arrive and my stocks are running low. I'd pay $50 to get 30ml in my hand. If it doesnt get here soon the price will go up.

I'm on the DIY bandwagon, too. Double & triple check the ingredients list on the grocery store flavorings. Many have coloring & preservatives in them that we don't want in our vapes. I don't know what brands you have in OZ but here in the midwest part of the US, we have Watkins, LorAnn's, McCormick, Durkee and other "store" brands. I have used all of them but have to check each flavor for unwanted extra ingredients. Watkins is my preferred brand and I have used peppermint (excellent), orange (very good), peanut butter (still steeping but so far not so good). I have very large bottles of Brewer's Best raspberry, cherry & strawberry flavorings for use in micro-brewing (make your own beer) that fit the "safe" requirements and the raspberry is excellent! I had purchased those bottles to add to lemonade and already had them in the cabinets when I switched to vaping. I also have some of the tiny little bottles from Wizard Labs using TFA/TPA flavorings that I started my DIY experiments with.

Hoosier has a great blog about DIY flavoring guide. Great information there.

I'm just starting my DIY journey as well...vape mail should be arriving any day now :) After reading the various articles here, I made the choice to only order flavoring specifically designated as e-liquid flavoring. I can't find it, but one article made a point that some of the flavorings made for ingestion were not good for inhaling. My point being, just be careful buying from the supermarket.

Hmmm...Rum almond? That does sound good :)

By the time anyone used up 200 liters it will likely be well beyond expiration and you want everything to be as fresh as possible.
