Hey all. I'm trying to get my Mom into this and want to get her a starter kit. The problem is that there seems to be a dizzying array here of options, not helped by the fact that I'm seeing lots of model numbers (901?) and not many brands. So I'm pretty confused :) My Mom smokes Marlboro lights, if that helps.

I'd like to simply get something from Amazon, if possible (stick to the outlets I know and trust). So, what is a simple, trusted and good kit you'd recommend? How can I easily get my Mom into this?

Thanks so much!

Based on your comments and many, many, long time members experiences, I would stay away from auto switch PV's (personal vaporizers) such as the 901, 801, 4081, M401,etc. Go with a manual switch PV. They are much less frustrating, last longer, have throat hit more like the real thing and in most cases, the batteries cost $2 instead of $13-$20 and you will be replacing batteries a lot.

The one that looks the most like a traditional cig is the Joye 510. It is a well liked PV on this forum. It does have a short battery life (2-3 hours) and the batteries cost more to replace. You can get a personal carry charger to go with it to charge batteries while away from the house.

The premier manual switch PV's don't look like a traditional cig but have long battery life (6-8 hours), great throat hit and vapor and batteries that cost about $2. They cost more initially but they really hold up and with the cheap batteries they basically pay for themselves. Here are some links to look at:

JantyStick: Janty USA

Also, do not just get prefilled carts. They tend to taste bad and are way more expensive that getting liquid to refill empty carts. I would suggest getting a nicotine strength of 18mg - 24mg based on what your Mom smokes. She can always reduce it over time. Two of my favorite flavors (and many others) are RY4 and KENT which you can get from Rocky Mountain Vapor or Ruyan.

Good Luck

Depending on who you ask (who posts) you will get a lot of different answers on what is the best model. Most everyone is giddy about the 510 (also called Joye510, yeti, titan) but it can have a harsh hit.

My favorite model is the DSE901, it has great flavor...I was sold on it from the first time I tried it over 3 months ago and I still love it.

I am female and I smoked Camel Lights.

There are a lot of sellers that sell the DSE901 at really fair prices and some even offer free shipping.

Rockymountainvapor

I would suggest getting 1 extra atomizer and a bottle of e-liquid as well.

Hi BB
Helps to know how many Mom's been smoking daily.
1-2 packs? Under 1 pack?

Also her age.... please, I am not being rude here but these things take a bit of 'comittment' - it's not always like just pulling out an .... log and lighter.
Cleaning equipment, charging batteries - filling carts if she wants that option (saves money and the pre-filled really don't equate to a pack)

If she's a moderate to light smoker - DSE 901 - 510 - or a penstyle..... should be sufficient

Heavy smoker - well she could do the above and have a USB passthrough for power (and be tethered to a USB port)
or it might be wise to invest in something with a bit longer/more consistant battery.

Batteries on the ones that are most like .... logs are 'iffy' - not always consistant vapor - and may last as much as a couple weeks - maybe. (I had 4 die in 10 days when I started)

You'll get lots of good advice here. The best is to figure out what will work for your Mom.
Give us a few more details and we'll all do our best to assist!

Happy Vaping

I too suggest the Joye510 I have several models of ecigs and this is by far the best.Like the others have said ROCKY MOUNTAIN vAPOR is very good service and he ships free. Vapor Country has good juice I havnt tried RMV liquid yet but I plan to IMHO I dont think a screwdriver is the best thing for a beginner. She will lovethe 510 There is a learning curve to all these products however, I dont know if your an esmoker or not but keep reading the forum youll learn alot and its soooooo worth it to get off cigarettes. I get frustrated sometimes with the equipment but Id never go back to regular cigaretts after using these.

Good Luck

Ahhhh yes,
early 50's - certainly still able to play well with the tools :thumb:
Someone mentioned the manual switch...very good idea.
AND
if she's only smoking 4 or 5 a day the 901 or 510 would be my suggestion. Especially if she wants it to look/feel as similar to an .... log as possible.

A step up in battery reliability and lifespan - consistant vapor and taste .... Janty Stick - would keep her from having to swap out bats during the day.....
(it's really easy to go back to the ancient smokin':-x fire when your pv's taste & vapor lack reliability) and the longer life on the batteries it means less ordering/shipping/cost since she'd be sidestepping the $10-15 each e-cig bats.

Happy Vaping:cool:

pulling out an .... log and lighter

Certainly gives a new meaning to "morning mouth".

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I am/was a Marlboro Light smoker and am solidly on the 510 bandwagon right now. The weight and diameter are just about the same, though the 510 is a bit longer. I bought an 18mg liquid assortment from Eastmall and I'd say that strength has a comparable hit to the M'boro Lights. Your mom may be intrigued by the variety of flavors available, and believe me the sky's the limit there.

Lots of people seem to like the DSE 901, which I may try next just for fun.

I smoked about four of five cigarettes a day (Camel Lights) as well.
The 510 is what I am using now, and I really like it.

It does have some tradeoffs though, but short battery life should not be any problem at that rate, and the manual battery allows it to burn hotter, which can lead to bigger throat hits and more vapor. On the other hand that also means it eats liquid quickly and can be a little harsh with many types of juices.

If she wants something more mellow, and a cloud of vapor isn't what rocks her world, maybe something like the 901 would work very well for her.

This place Widows Bead Work - E-cig has a Joye 510 starter kit available for $50 and they ship fast and are located in San Diego. And yes, definitely get yourself one or two extra 10ml bottle of medium juice and around 10 blank cartridges.

Edit: Unfortunately, I don't see any blank cartridges there.
