I bought my first mech and RDA last week and after some great advice from Stae O' Flux (thank you again), I had decided that I would like to try 28 gauge Kanthal vs. the 30 gauge I had been using.
I couldn't wait until after the holiday to buy some 28 gauge, and had heard that a twisted 30 gauge pair was the same (or extremely close). While waiting for my local shop to open this morning (impatiently), I decided to try it.
Tell me what you guys think (be gentle, lol).
Any suggestions?
It's 2 30 gauge twisted pairs with an 7/8 wrap on a 1/16 drill bit. It's on a smok Caterpillar RDA to be used on a smok Magneto.
It came out at .4ohm, but not real confident in my aging multimeter (buying new one today). I was shooting for .6....missed, lol.
Should still be within the capability of my AW IMR 18490 batteries, but going this low makes me wonder if I should look into some protected ones.
Anyways, all input is welcome and appreciated.
Thanks.

nice coils!! well done :) just do em again ;)

im sure someone else will be in to help you out, i think yours batt's are good down to 0.5Ω

as far as i know in a mech you dont want protected batteries ...

if i get a short or things get too hot in my reo the spring at the neg side of the batt collapses breaking the circuit to stop the battery from heating up and venting, if this happens which it hasnt cu i stay wthin the limits of my batt's i have to replace the spring, do you only have a spring in yours or a fuse?

or replacement spring? i dont know how your mech is built sorry :)

Thanks! haven't been building all that long and wasn't sure I could do it.
I guess I'm a little nervous with sub-ohm stuff. Only been using regulated mods until now. Always thought that AW IMR were considered the safest. Just wanting to err on the side of caution.
I don't have a spring. The Magneto uses magnets in the switch and solid battery contacts in battery tube.
Still not sure about wicking on this thing yet. This build dries out faster than my previous dual 30 gauge micro build. Wondering if its my wicking or just more surface area and power. Tried several different ways.
Just not sure if it's working well, or if I just expected a lot bigger difference from my Russian's, lol.

This build did raise some questions in my mind though.
What happens if just one wire in a twisted pair breaks? Does the resistance simply go up, and cause uneven heating?
Is it normal in an RDA for one coil to use more liquid than the other? In all of my builds, I find that when its time to drip one wick has become less saturated than the other.
Thanks for the chart, saved it for later reference.

On a side note.....I have been very interested in the REO.
Seems like the best of both worlds between an RDA and an RTA. I thought I would start small with a cheaper RDA and mech, to see if I liked them as much as my Provari's and Russian's before spending the money on a higher quality mech and an RDA.
Do you have many problems with leaking from the atomizer when in a pocket or on it's side?
Is there some general household object I could use for a size comparison of the different models?
I am more concerned with size than battery life. I don't mind carrying extra batts if it keep my mod small. I guess that's why I only own 18350 and 18490 batteries, lol.

im not even sure if your batt spec is for the two as a whole as you are using them together, i dont think it doubles ...

stay with us ...dont blow yourself up:D

I would assume it means total resistance. Can't see how battery could tell if it was single or dual coil. It would only register it's discharge rate.
Trying not to blow myself up, although my wife might wish for it! I'm an ... and worth more dead than alive, lol. :p

its smaller then a pack of fags and leakage well you still need to keep it upright like others and so long you vape off the last bit of juice from the deck before putting it in pocket you should be good :)

Reos Mods

and are yeah no i ment i dont know how if the batts alter anything being two instead of one, i know it wont half the Ω nvm

dripping becomes a chore and the taste is outstanding so to be able to just squeeze a bottle for fresh juice on a mech is the best by far

When you say "smaller than a pack of fags", do you mean "shorts", what model size of REO are you referring to, and what is the battery life of each (in hours, approximate)?
I love the "pack of fags" reference! Haven't heard it since my great grandmother passed away.
Brought back fond memories.
I am a third generation "colonist", but still almost 99% English...... Love it!
I remember when my grandmother would send me to the "fags and mags", as a child, to get the paper, when we would visit.
She would say that "We are the same people, divided by a common language". Was it Wilde or Shaw? Who knows? I had no idea what she was talking about until I entered college.
Lovely, strong, and fantastic woman! London, WWII...you do the math.
I digress.....
Thanks for the input!

Hard to judge by just measurements. Guess I need to find someone who has one so I can see it in person.
Didn't think there would be that much difference between a standard Provari and a Mini, but their was.
Anyway, we've gotten way off topic here, lol. I did learn that I want to buy and try a REO mini!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys!

Anyone else have a criticism of my build? Really looking for some input here.
Have since rewicked with more cotton and it's much better. Thought maybe I used too much, but the opposite was true.
She is a fickle mistress!
Anyway, thanks for any and all input.
