Flashlight Mod Questions

For the flashlight mod, I have read that you can use a single battery for 3.7v and two 123As for 5v vaping. Is the single battery a 18500 or a 18650? This will be my first time building a mod, but was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for other tweaks of the standard flashlight mod before I start putting the thing together.

Different batteries can be used in most mods, some can use one or the other, and some can use both. I found a couple great flashlight how to's at the madvapes.com how to section, also here, checkout maddogs magnum mod.

there is a very very slight difference between 16340's and cr123's but all mods that ive seen will use both, the difference is in the length, and its barely even noticable.

Ok...
It depends on the flashlight you have, some fit 18650's well, some do not....
2 cr123's (or 16340's) are approx. the same length of 1 18650 (16340 = 16mm dia, 34mm height; 18650 = 18mm dia, 65mm height; protected batts are about 1mm taller)....

My suggestion would be to measure twice.
Be sure your 18650's will fit in your flashlight before you start drilling holes for switches, as you may have to put a switch on the top instead of the side, or add an extension to your tube to be able to fit the switch and atty with an 18650....

16340's are usually 3.7V (4.2V full charge, so 2 = 8.4V), RCR123 (CR123 = disposable Lithium pile batts, RCR123 = rechargeable Li-Ion batts) are usually 3.0V (so 2 = 6+V)... But not always, there are 3.7V RCR123s, so read carefully before you buy....

2 cr123 batteries unregulated will give you 6 volts not 5 volts. If your going to use a regulator to get 5 volts I recommend 2 16340 they are 3.7 volt batteries each but at full charge they run at 4.2 which gives you 8.4 volts to regulate down to 5 volts.

I was planning on running a 5V reg or VV. I just wanted to make sure that you could double stack either the 123a or 16340 to work in a 18650 space. As of now, I think I'll do 2 16340s in with a VV reg so long as I can cram all of the goods in the light. Mounting the knob for the VV reg will be a task to say the least.

What kind of flashlight are you using to fit all that into? I've wanted to do the same thing, but havent found a flashlight thats long enough to do so.
