Does it make sense to get less flavor by switching from 30 to 28 gauge kanthal or moving from .7ohms to.5 or a combination of both. Wick type consistent. All other variables consistent.

What type of PV and rda or tank set up are you using, all of them have there own idiosyncrasies, and we would all be better equipped to help you find a solution.

Generally if you increase power you always run the risk of overpowering which would lead to issues. Need to make sure you are upgrading the rest of the build to handle.

I have the same issue 30ga is a cooler more flavorful vape not sure about ohms making a difference

Could be. There is, I think, a difference between steam and finely atomized flash boiled vapor. Steam is rich and wet and carries flavor well. The hotly flash boiled fine vapor less so. A good vape has both. Your build will determine the balance. Usually changing to a larger diameter wire enriches the vape but you might have exceeded your wicking performance at .5 ohm and ended up with a flavorless cloud of finely atomized vapor but no wet steam.

what about your airhole size and position relative to your coils

when one increases wattage airflow is very important. I would have to say you might need to open the airhole size.
