What is a floating pin in mechanical mod?

A solid 510 / positive contact pin that isn't threaded... but rather floats (slides) in it's insulator. It's common in telescopic mech mods and allows for rapid battery length variation/atomizer adjustment.

Yes there is. This is an older mech called the Legacy. As you can see the connection pin is more of a screw and can be adjusted up and down.

Fixed tube mods, either multi-tube to accommodate different battery mAh capacities (lengths), or single tube (18650 would be the most common at present)... tend to use single screw or "screw-in-screw" as their adjustment capability.

Here's an example of screw-in-screw... the top cap of a Element "Tree of Life" mod.

ah...Thanks but I should admit I am not grasping things to the fullest extend, though I can understand. Should I understand this better to make a purchase decision, or the design of any good 18650 Mod will take care of it?

Not that you asked but my opinion as someone fairly new to mechs the floating pins are nice. With the screw in style every time you switch attys you have to adjust it. With a floating pin you just screw it on and adjust the bottom button. No need to remove the top cap.
