To start off, I suppose I'll introduce myself...

Im a 26 year old smoker who has been smoking for approximately half my life (ah, the joys of middle school...) Anyway, I'm hoping that will soon change when my first e-cig kit shows up from china (...shipped on the 3rd.. should be here in the next 1-4 days, according to the seller, assuming it clears customs)

Ordered from Ruyandirect.com (input?), it is a Joye510. (input?) In my sleep-deprived state, I somehow ordered it thinking it was an NJOY510, which I had heard such good things about. Spending nearly $100 for the kit, e-liquid, shipping, etc, I really hope it is of similar quality. Opinions I have seen here seem to vary, but at least I haven't read anything too terrible about the Joye ..yet... aside from the luck-of-the-draw batteries (pardon the pun)

Any input and/or advice would be very much appreciated. I read a couple of "HEY NEWBIE" -type forums, and intend to look through the 510-related subforums as time permits, but a short list of "first-reads" would help to get the uber-important stuff out of the way first, hopefully before I do or say anything too stupid. I hurriedly read a number of reviews and such before ordering my e-cig, but am otherwise completely clueless here. A little over 2 weeks ago, I was oblivious to these things altogether.

Basically, lets assume that I still dont know squat about these neat little gadgets and go from there, starting with the Joye510 that I hope will soon get here and prove it's worth.

For starters, I heard something about the NJOY 510 being the only FDA-approved e-cig. Is this just the NJOY 510, or all 510's, or just the carts and/or liquid that comes with the NJOY's, meaning that the e-cig itself doesn't matter, etc....?

It's like a whole new world of gadgetry I've stumbled into...

Wait til it arrives and start to learn, the best thing you probably can do is go and view a few videos, they as far as i'm conserned are the best way to learn when you know nothing, they'll teach you all the basics and maybe more.

the 510 is a good start :)

As far as i know no Ecigs have FDA approval.None.

Welcome to ECF!

First off... there is no such thing as an FDA approved e-cig. If the FDA had it's way, the e-cig would be illegal, and they'd make us take Chantix, which makes people kill themselves. Gotta love our government agencies, eh?

That being said...

RuyanDirect (a.k.a. Heaven Gifts) is a reputable Chinese seller. No problems there. And you made a good choice with the Joye 510. It's a solid device, and performs very well. I'm puffing on one as we speak. Barring any DOA parts (it happens with every model) you should be very happy with it.

Definitely read the 510 subforum. Lots of info there. Also, don't be shy about asking questions once your 510 arrives. Lots of folks here like to help.

Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping! :)

Great choice of model. I was in your exact spot only a couple months ago. My advice...

Don't expect it to be perfect at first. The atty takes a little bit of time, a day or 2, to burn off the primer fluid and wear in a bit. Be patient. Also, make sure your batteries are fully charged when you start using it.

I don't know exactly what you ordered but I do recommend you also order some liquid samples, an extra atty or 2, and maybe an extra battery or 2. Also the PCC for the 510 is a must have in my opinion as the batteries die fairly quick and the PCC allows you to recharge them on the road.

Shop around for suppliers. I recommend finding a reputable american supplier for all your needs. Shipping is usually faster and customer service better. I personally like to use Drew at NHaler for all my liquid and 510 needs. He has great liquids and ships everything very fast.

Be ready to experiment with mods and techniques to get your device working exactly how you want. I use a PTB teabag mod for my cartridges and cut my liquid with VG (vegetable glycerin) to reduce the nicotine content of my juice and increase vapor production. I find the PTB material a much better filler than the polyfill stuff that comes with the cartridges.

I consider the extra atty's a must, esp. when starting out with the 510. In the process of experimenting with cart mods, I flooded my first atty multiple times and quickly found that i had damaged it severely. I now have my technique down and the new atty i replaced it with works much better.

Best of luck and welcome.

solidsnake, you DID make a good choice. I've been at this all of about 50 hours and love my JOYE 510. (I think the Njoy is an entirely different thing, an 'automatic'). The 'manual' is the one with the button and I like it best. The 510 gives a good hit and great vapor. You can get free shipping at rockymountainvapor.com with any order over $14.00. They've got vapor and the battery recharger for the 510 you can carry with you all charged up and ready to charge your batteries on the run.

Good luck, you're gonna do great. This is too much fun!

The way I break them in is to first hit it with no cart a few times. Then drop 3 drops on to the atomizer, and hit it some more. Then let it rest for a few mins before hitting it again. I don't even mess with filling carts anymore.....

At first you can have little vapor, and really you should break them in with a freshly charged battery. It takes a day or so before they are really going strong.

All E-Liquid is not = and some have a better throat hit than others do.

What I would do is pull the stuffing out of one cart, and just use it blank. Just put 3 drops right onto the atomizer, and the taste will change right before it's about to run out.

As far as I know a 510 is a 510 is a 510 no matter where it comes from. It's when you get into modded 510's that differences vary. 510's across the board are widely accepted as a good vaporizer and becoming the #1 recommended "starter" e-ciggy.

I use a 510 and it's performance has done nothing but get better as I get more knowledgeable on the device and techniques. Take time with your PV when you get it, chances are any hang ups that occur are on the user end of the device not the device itself.

LOL .. FDA approved... not laughing at you but the comment is quite funny even if not intended to be so.

Trust me there is no FDA approved device... yet, and the whole situation with the FDA is quite ridiculous.

I also started with the 510 and am still using one on a box mod that I made a couple of weeks ago. I think the throat hit has a lot to do with nicotine level. I started with 18mg and felt almost no throat hit and then started on 24mg and get a decent throat hit on most liquids but not all. I also got my first kit from ruyan(which is now heaven-gifts.com) and am still using the attys that came in my kit. I would guess that your atty is not broken in yet. Have you tried dripping a drop or two on the atty bridge? You could try this with no cart just to see if you get more vapor, just be careful not to burn your lips if you draw too long. Just be careful not to put too much liquid in or you could flood the atty and not get much vapor either.

I'm in the exact same boat with solidsnake. Just got the Joye 510 yesterday, I only have the carts that came with it. What if you don't have any liquid yet?

Work with what you have, get some liquid quickly, and research on direct dripping (it makes it a more pleasurable experience)

missa, if you don't have any liquid, first I would place an order now. Second, you could take the filler out of a couple of carts and put them in a syringe so you can squeeze the liquid out of them into a container. Then you would have something to drip.

So a couple of drops of VG on the atty should give a similar effect to solving the problem SolidSnake was having even though he used juice?

BTW - good for you SolidSnake! I hope I can get there too without having to wait for my order to come in the mail!

I sincerely hope so too! It took 8 days for my order to get here, but it felt more like 8 weeks, and now that I have it working, albeit still being broken in, I am absolutely giddy about it! The super-cool "gadget factor" of loading and dripping just makes it even more fun! You will be very pleased, I'm sure, when you get yours working properly. Be sure to let us know how you like it :)

BTW, the PCC for the 510 is very cool! I recommend the silver one immensely. Much cooler gadget factor than shown in online pics. My only disappointment is that it can't hold a fully-assembled e-cig. I wish they had mentioned that on their website, now I need to get a case for my in-use e-cig so it doesn't slip out of my pocket or fry itself or anything
