Hi, Brittany and welcome! Stick around here and spill through some of the threads and soon you may feel like you're back in engineering school again. There's a lot of knowledge to be found here, as well as support. Good luck!
Suprisely some of it has come in handy.
Thank you.

I quit with vaping for 6 weeks oh almost 10 years ago, but then went back to a stressful job and back to smoking. The first time didn't seem as hard, I'm a stress smoker. Then I dual used for a while and went back to smoking only.

I showed up here because I was giving vaping one last ditch chance. I had had pneumonia for 18 months straight, a laryngeal cancer scare and I was about to get the dreaded COPD dx at 43. Granted I was smoking about 3 ppd by then.

NOTHING got me off smoking like really figuring out vaping. I quit cold turkey when I was pregnant and nursing but I wanted to smoke the WHOLE time.

Helpful things, for me: dedicating a LOT of my time to learning about all aspects of vaping so I could be self sufficient. DIY. Building my own coils.

Whole tobacco alkaloid juice helped me a TON in the beginning. It has some of the minor alkaloids besides tobacco that my brain seems to love, but no combustion, so not harmful. Pricy, but worth it to me, got me through that "I want to chew through steel" sensation that happened around 3 pm. I kept a tank of them handy.

Also, I put off my hardest cigarette of the day FIRST. The a.m. one. I knew if I didn't I'd be smoking all day long, so I just delayed it a bit more every morning while vaping feverishly.

There is a ton of harm reduction out there. My current (rather stressful) job HATES vaping, I don't want ANYONE to know I am a vaper, so I use Swedish snus (arguably a more robust harm reduction method than vaping even, as you don't inhale it) and plenty more minor alkaloids than nicotine alone. I've gone 13 hour days without vaping using snus, and the alkaloids take the place of the inhaling part for me. It's very useful.

But, you will find your own methods that work, and that is what is important. I keep hearing you say you "hope" it works.

Don't "hope" it works. Make it work-- for you. I think that's slightly different for every vaper and you will have to make vaping your own. That may and can include trying different setups, tanks, and juices and vaping styles not to mention the infinite amount of juice flavors available (right now anyway.)

Welcome to ECF and I am wishing you all the success in the world!

Anna

Welcome. My last smoke was over 7 years ago thanks to vaping. The biggest hurdle I had was getting over not having that morning buzz (feeling of calm from that first few puffs after hours not smoking) which vaping doesn't have in at least my case for various reasons. One is that vaping doesn't get nicotine to your brain almost instantly like smoking does. The main one in my opinion though is lack of MAO inhibitors like cigarette smoke contains. Personally I feel that is the biggest physiological contributor to smoking addiction. Thus the mention by others of whole tobacco alkaloids (WTA) which contain a certain amount (though not all) of the additional compounds in cigarette smoke. Tough that lack of first thing calm out for a couple of weeks and it gets a lot better. I tried WTA to make up the calm and found that it was too reminiscent of smoking for me so I toughed it out. Didn't miss it at all after a few weeks. I still get anxious if without vape for a few hours but not anywhere near the level when I smoked 2 PAD for over 20 years.

There will be days where it gets tough, but chain vape to get through it. Those days will get less frequent and I haven't had one now for years.

Also I got "vapers tongue" after a couple weeks. That's where you loose (or severely reduced) taste for a week or two. Once the taste buds adjusted and went back to pre smoking sensitivity it was amazing how thst I had forgot just how great food tasted.

FYI see if these symptoms are familiar:

"Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are a class of drugs that inhibit the activity of one or both monoamine oxidase enzymes: monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) and monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B). They are best known as powerful anti-depressants, as well as effective therapeutic agents for panic disorder and social phobia."

" Antidepressants including MAOIs have some dependence-producing effects, the most notable one being a withdrawal syndrome, which may be severe especially if MAOIs are discontinued abruptly or too rapidly."

For just about as long as I can remember my morning has relied on coffee and smoke. So I can deffinantly see that being one of the hardest to over come.
Thank you.
I do keep saying hope, which is an out look I should change.
I have faith this will work, especially seeing how many it has helped this far.

Welcome to the friendly bunch :)

The great thing about vaping is that it really does provide a safer alternative to smoking. You don't have to give up all of those pleasures that keep you hooked on the death sticks.

It does take some determination and you need to make sure you've got the correct (high enough) nic level for you but in the end its so worth it.

Loads of friendly advice here when you need it :)

Tips, Brittany? Keep talking, keep asking, keep trying (devices, e-liquids, etc.).

And be prepared to have some fights with your wallet. There's a common theme amongst vapers known as "shinyitis" - the love of buying new stuff!

But it's fun, delightful even, and you prolly won't even THINK of smoking cigs! :D

Intersting.. lol.
To each there own I suppose.

Apple pie, cinnamon roll, blackberry jam, mint chocolate chip cookies are all my favorite flavors..

you might like cereal better, I think the 30's crowd is into breakfast cereal... Products

lol.. pretty much if you like it you can vape it.. saves a few pounds too.. just vape cake! lol

I love flavors... SO much better than cigarette flavor... I found it very helpful in breaking the tie with cigarettes, because Apple pie anytime night or day is just nice.. and a couple weeks of that and the cigarette tastes truly disgusting.

I smoked for 32 years and have been cigarette free for 5 years now..

it's worth a solid effort, if you want to quit smoking.. :)
