My eyesight has really gone down-hill the past 18 months. Even my glasses are no good for up close work now. I started coiling 3 years ago and now do it pretty much by feel. It's like muscle memory when re-coiling a kayfun......
Now that i think about it, that may be the reason why i stick to kayfun-like decks.

Here is something that might be helpful
    Helping Hands
I had one of these when I was in my ?tweens/early teens? learning how to solder and build simple electric/electronic projects. There has been many more than two or three times in the past few decades I wish I still had this, I could've used it for many many things!

For a very long while, I didn't want to and didn't need to (Nautilus mini--just replace the coil).

With the new regs looming quickly, I bucked up and understood I might not be able to purchase those coils in the future. I panicked in May and started looking for MTL tanks. I found some suitable tanks, got a coil winder and an ohm checker and built some coils. The first 3-4 coils weren't all that great, but I forced myself to keep trying. (Understand, this took me a couple of months, kicking and screaming.)

I hated having being forced to do it, but I do have to say I am enjoying my vaping experience much more than I ever did before.

I'm still a tootle puffer ~1.6 ohms, ~10.5 watts, rayon wick, Kayfun mini v3 clone on a Provari Classic. Very good for me.

Unless you have a very severe case of terrible eyesight or shakes, you can certainly build your own coils. I know we all have different situations, though.

I'm female, 65 years old. Wow, did I just say that? I thought I was 40!

Only replaceable coils I ever bought were the extras I bought with my first Mods. The day after getting those first Mods I found ecf and learned how folks were accepting an outrageous amount of dud coils. I was having none of that! Immediately ordered RBA bases for my eGrips and started building. Simple stuff really.
Then went to the easily rebuilt Kanger products. Been vaping a little over a year now and just recently got my real first real RBAs. Just on the verge of going subohm. At 1.01 ohm right now.

Exactly!! I like being able to see what I'm doing but have been coiling for so long I really could do it with my eyes closed.
