For someone like me who is just getting started in diy, what would you say would be the essential flavors (say 10-12) to have in you first order. I already have the base liquids-PV,VG and Nic juice, but need a short list of good starting flavors. I don't particularly like fruity juice, but willing to try new tastes. Would appreciate some advise.

Vanilla for one, adds complexity in flavor added in very small quanities to almost any flavor.
Similar to baking or candy making, vanilla is used widely.
Sweetner, I've found a few drops change the flavor perception, a little goes a long way.
Menthol, to mix with mistakes, enough crystals can make anything vapeable :)
Then pick some simple flavors that intrest you, for me it's lime, anise, licorice, peanut butter.

If you go through the diy recipe section of this forum and pick the recipes that sound the best to your tastes you will probably notice that many contain some of the same flavorings like vanilla, chocolate, cotton candy, cinnamon or whatever it is for your tastes. When I did this there were like 5 that kept coming up so I got those with a few complimentary flavors like graham cracker or cheesecake (just examples) and that gave me a great place to start my collection based on my tastes.

Hope that made sense! lol

Oh, and I got a couple others that I wasnt sure about like a couple mints, fruits and nuts and i ended up loving the fruits and mints! So on your second & third orders try adding small 3ml of flavors outside your "normal". Youll for sure find SOME youll love

Good luck

No one can give you a definite answer as to what flavors to try, it all depends on your taste.

You've probably tried quite a few flavors of premixed juices. Think about some of the simpler flavors which you like that won't take too much work to replicate. Single flavors are the easiest since you don't have to try guessing at the proper proportions of several flavors.
