i've noticed this thing about smokers. if you're not smoking a "real" cig, they feel as if you're deprived in some way and out of the goodness of their hearts they really really want to share with you the "genuine experience" of smoking a cig.
i noticed them when i hand rolled my own smokes (and preferred them this way), and it holds true when someone sees that you are vaping.
when i first started vaping i would accept these cigarettes, just cuz. the last one i accepted was in dec when i was at a work xmas party and one of my vision clearomizers decided to disarticulate when i was walking on my way there. i couldn't even finish the damn thing, and i felt pretty terrible. i also accepted a cheap low grade cig my mom likes, which i hated even when i was smoking tailor mades, when i was enduring a trip to the apple store. i wasn't yet accustomed to my current power outlets, and didn't realize that my 650 mah batts were only charging for about 5 mins of use. they were randomly dying and i didn't want to "embarrass myself" by vaping a dying device with the smokers. seriously. from the lingering smell my clothes, hands, hair, and breath i swore i would never touch another cigarette again. mission accomplished.
whenever i'm hanging outside my venue/bar vaping and someone offers me a cig, i just let them know they don't realize how yucky it is til they've tried vaping for a while.
ugh.

I totally get that. We were the same way on and off with rollin our own. And your right "smokers" do not even see RYO as "real" cigs. Its funny.

That's just . . . odd. Handroll tobacco (except Top) is generally better than what you get in cigarettes.

For a long time, the OP was true for me. They all tasted bad. Here and there I would snag a buddys cig and take a hit or two, just to remind myself of the bad taste. Then last year, 1 year and 6 months post quitting, I started smoking again and they didn't taste bad. Anyone reading this, follow the advice of the OP and don't do it! Now I'm working on finding something that does work, because obviously my current set up isn't working.

I've debated about this myself, should I go light one up and just to remind myself how bad the last one tasted.

I do this every few weeks, and honestly it tastes like poison. I can't even finish one. I've no idea how I ever smoked 300,000+ (!!!) of them over 30 years.

I do it because otherwise I sit here wondering if I am missing something. It verifies that I am not, and for me that makes quitting almost too damn easy.

Sometimes they still smell good to me.. usually when I first walk into my favorite casino. What is it about smoking in a casino?? I could go through a pack and a half on a good night there.. serious chain smoking. In the four and a half months I've been vaping, I smoked one analog,, one night at the casino when all three of my little 808 batts died. Yes, it tasted awful. Did I smoke the whole darn thing? Of course. But just the one. I felt so awful I vowed to never do that again and I haven't. Now I take two fully charged KGOs, and two fully charged Elites and a TON of cartos and I've been good ever since. But yes, sometimes they do still smell good. I wonder if they always will?
