Just thought I would share my amusing story.

I realized on the way to work that I forgot my hardware at home. It was too late to turn around, and I thought "crap, I'll have to buy a pack...."

Then I remembered, I keep a spare atty and fluid in my backpack! But no batteries, switch...what to do? So with some paper clips, electrical tape, 3 inches of wiring, and 4xAAA batteries, I'm vaping comfortably :p

It's literally 4xAAA batteries taped together in a square with an 801 strapped to it. My switch? A loose wire I touch to the outside metal with my thumb.

MacGyver FTW?

Taken with my iPhone 3G...sucky quality but you get the idea.

I think my coworkers believe I am building a bomb or something lol.

Edit: it's 4 standard AAA batteries, so roughly 4.8. If I have a multimeter I'll tell you exactly

Very resourceful!
Why am I picturing a disheveled looking person running around a vacant building checking every book of matches lying on the ground?

I think the word you are looking for is "addict" :p

So in this view, the left side red lines indicate the batteries are bridged in the front of the view, the top and bottom are in the back, and the right shows where each wire goes/comes from.

Hey, it was either Fankenstein or tobacco...

There are probably some safety concerns here, so don't attempt this. There is a lot of room for shorting batteries, frying the atty etc. < /disclaimer >

The simple explanation of "how to" if you're in a pinch is as follows:

You have standard batteries, 4xAAA or 4xAA, they are the same voltage, just longer life for AA. They are arranged in a square, diagonals facing the same direction ( [-] for negative end, [+] for positive ) This will be our "top view"
Code:
[ - ][ + ]
[ + ][ - ]
Wrap tape around all four. Then pick a side for the atty. That will be your "open" side. If you number them from the previous view:
Code:
[ 1 ][ 2 ]
[ 3 ][ 4 ]
lay a paper clip piece ( I used U shaped sections ) across the TOP of 1 and 3 (connecting them), then secure it with a piece of electrical tape (not all the way around the batteries).

Do the same for the BOTTOM of 1 and 2, and the same for the BOTTOM of 3 and 4.

Now lick 2 and 4 together, if you get a jolt, you did it right ;-)

Strap the atty onto the open side (2 and 4) with more electrical tape. Edit: Mouthpiece faces away from you

Now, put a small piece of wire (end stripped) on top of 4, place another piece of paper clip over it, and tape it down. Be careful not to short the batteries by crossing 2 and 4.

Repeat the same for the top of 2.

One wire goes in the center hole in the atty, the other touches the metal outside. The gauge wire I used allowed it to fit snugly inside.

Viola!

I'd like to reiterate my safety notice above. So scroll back and read it again :w00t:
