Hi Folks, Been vaping about 2 months and really enjoy it. Proud to say I finally ditched the analogs exactly 4 days ago, and have had no real desire to go back to them. I smoked for 27 years, and vaping gave me just what I needed to dump them. I started vaping with a junky gas station cig-a-like, but that led me to looking for better setups. I bought a Tornado V3 kit that I still use, and I set up my own eGo rig with a 1100mah battery and an Aspire CE5 tank. I am getting tired of these setups now. They seem to be diminishing in performance, and after I reach my 5 posts as a new member, I will have several questions about what I have and whats next. Until then, thanks for having me, and I am glad to be here !:D

Good for you mark454.. :)

You can ask about what's next straight away if you can reply on this thread. (I guess...)

I really dislike the Tornado system and had very little luck with the Aspire CE5 (the BVC ones) so know where you are coming from.

Even a modest upgrade to a small box mod and Aspire BVC Nautilus would be something. Personally, I think the Kanger Subtank (nano, in my case) is better than the mini Nautilus, even at the same power.... which is not using it to it's full potential really. I consider that set up "room to grow".... if that's your thing.

Thanks for the quick replies Susan and djsvapour. I read all the new member info yesterday, and I guess I misunderstood. I thought you couldn't ask a veteran a question until you passed 5 posts. So here is my questions/concerns. Being a total noob, well I'm that now, but 2 months ago I was a super noob with no guidance, I upgraded to the 2 setups I mentioned. All in all I have been pleased with them. I had nothing to really go by except the reviews of the products people left. One thing I did know is that it had to be a step up from the junky cig-a-like. So I got them and surprise, I needed to also have replacement coils. So I got those. I rotate between the 2 setups and have a different juice in each. Now after using them a couple of months, I have noticed a few things. The coils last longer then I thought they would. I truly have had only one totally die on me. I have changed them both out just to change them out once or twice also. It seems now that the productivity of both units is diminishing now. The Tornado V3 is actually doing better, but they just don't seem to have the ummph, or power they used to have. I changed the coil out in the aspire a couple of days ago, and the set up just doesn't seem to be putting out like it used to. I never did like the 'airy' pull on it to begin with, so I cover 1 or both air hole with my fingers. If you don't its like sucking on a straw in an empty glass. I just listened to buth setups while I pressed the power buttons and they both snap crackle and pop. Maybe it's just because I quit smoking a few days ago, but these setups aren't doing the trick anymore. Maybe the batteries have weakened? Maybe I should change the coils in both? I think I will end up graduating to a mechanical mod, as I don't have alot to spend on fancy setups. If I do switch to a mech mod, that will involve rebuilding coils, correct? I'm not afraid to do that, but I just want to know what I will be getting myself into. Not looking to be a cloud chaser, but need step up for my own satisfaction.

Hi Mark, I'm not new to vaping and have a little experience, but am new to EFC, maybe I can be of help. The crackling and popping can be normal, it all depends on how high of wattage/voltage you run it at, and many other factors. Sometimes lowering the W/V can reduce the popping, but the vapor will be less potent. The way I always judge if a coil needs to be replaced is if the flavor is becoming muted (loss of flavor) or if it is tasting burnt. Otherwise, I keep using the same coil until one of those two things start to happen with it. If neither of those is happening, and you are not getting enough satisfaction from the vapor, you can either try increasing the W/V for a warmer more intense vapor, or consider moving up to a higher strength liquid. If your using 12mg you can try out 16 or 18mg, ect. If your mod/battery is variable W/V then the battery getting weak will not matter so much as the device can ramp up the power or keep it raised as the battery loses power. If you go to mechanical mods yes you will most likely want to get into rebuildable's, and the battery will become more important too as the power will be whatever the battery provides. Fresh batteries off the charger will be 4.1/4.2 volts. They will lose voltage from use until re-charged, dropping to around 3.5 to 3.2v, you will notice the vapor get less and less over time until you have to put it on the charger again. If you are not ready for rebuildable's quite yet, I can highly recommend an Aspire Atlantis as it provides a very intense vapor without having to rebuild. Make sure you get a proper mod to power it though, like the CF Sub Ohm also made by Aspire, or any Variable Wattage device with at least 20w to maybe 30w.

Mechanical mods work out good value. It's up to you if you want to build (make) coils. Most people do so; 1) to make the best resistance coils to suit their vaping and 2) to save money and get a better 'quality' vape. I do a bit (not very much) but for work, I just use plug and play devices.

My personal feeling is that once you know what power you prefer to vape at (8 watts, 15 watts, 35 watts, whatever) you can make most things work for you.

If I was using a mechanical mod tomorrow as my main device, I'd probably build coils to about 1.2 or 1.3ohms. So, as that is my range (14 watts?) I can use a Subtank (1.2) straight on a mech, but not a 0.5ohm coil (Subtank or Atlantis) and not a Nautilus 1.6 or 1.8.

There is a poster on here who likes mini Nautilus 1.8 on a 4.2v battery... for me it's a little weak, but there are no wrongs or rights. Some folk enjoy vaping at 20-30 watts, which is fine... they tend to use lower strength liquid, mostly.

to ecf mark454. Nice to meet you and so glad that you are here. Just a great place to be if you ask me. I tried several different things before I figured out I just needed more. After my ego style battery phase, I used a mvp2 and that is where I fell in love with box mods and dripping also. You have to try things in order to know what you like because everyone is different. But I can say, you know when you find it. I stopped looking 10 months ago when I started using the reo and I am 99.9% sure I will never use anything else. Good luck to you and finding what makes you happy. Lots of suggestions on ecf and great recommendations. YouTube's are another great way to really get a feel for a mod. Happy vaping and just make yourself at home.
