Formaldehyde in E-Cigarette enjoyment

Pick apart this article to justify or not.

There are three reasons that I would not say electronic cigarettes pose no risks. First, they contain nicotine, which has adverse cardiovascular effects. So we are not expecting that electronic cigarettes will ever be viewed as being absolutely safe. Second, there are some acute respiratory irritant effects of propylene glycol inhalation. The implications of these effects for chronic use are not yet understood, but more research needs to be done before we know whether there might be some long-term respiratory effects. Third, there are low levels of a few specific volatile organic compounds. Of most concern is formaldehyde.

The consensus is that there is no definitive info on the long-term effects of propylene glycol inhalation. However, knowing what we know about tobacco and about "e-cigs," it is EXTREMELY unlikely that vaping is anywhere near as dangerous as smoking. We will find out in the future. For now, I'm happy knowing my fiance has to use her inhaler less than half as much.

LOL, have a read, be my guest. I already spent 10 minutes finding those links for you. ;)

Honestly, the answer is more research is needed but the formaldehyde study has been seriously questioned by people far more qualified to answer than I am.

For me the simple answer is I believe (through a combination of research and personal experience) that using ecigs is a far less harmful way for me to inhale nicotine than smoking cigarettes. That's about all I can say for sure (and even that is still open to question)

i didn't read the links because ive read alot of the other ones .... but on that note the studies i have read here on ecf, for the most part, tested from a persons exhale formaldehyde is present in a 10-14% ratio of gases but without the person none is present. Formaldehyde is produced by every living thing naturally weather plant, animal or human( easily verified on the inter web and ecf through links), in reality vaping may contain lets say 20 chems.( hypothetical just because the entire process all together has not been tested for more than 50 years) its still 980 chemicals less then a cig! and yes we don't know what may come but all the great recovery stories about peoples blood pressure dropping, lungs getting healthier, ability to exersize increasing, etc on this site its well worth the risk. i believe! but who am i but a happy vaper! lol

My thought is that just regular bad breath ejects more nasties than a decent e-juice. PG is used in asthma inhalers. Nicotine is used medically too. At close to 4,000 chemicals in a cigarette, of which formaldehyde is one, I cannot see any good reason to return to smoking vs. vaping and I most certainly can't see justifying the ban of the e-cigarette when it's fatal sister is still quite legal and A-OK as far as gvt and corporate profits are concerned! Just my 2 denarii worth

Now that you mention it, I RAN to the mailbox and back TWICE the other day, and I didn't want to fall over and die! I can run! I've never been able to do that! I need running shorts and new shoes! Maybe I can use some of that money I'm saving since I quit smoking and buy running shorts and new shoes! This is the BEST DAY EVER!

That's a good idea! Paying the rent IS becoming a problem this summer what with the multiple layoffs...

To follow on from a previous post of mine, formaldehyde is in regular cigarettes; did it bother any of us then? And why are the reports only about the possibilities of such a product in e-cigs but makes no mention of it being in cigarettes anyway, along with arsenic, acetone, etc etc. I just can't stand hypocrisy - makes me gnash my teeth, then I have to go to the dentist and then he has to repair them, and I have to pay him and that makes me madder!

I'm going to buy into DR Pilosa's study and what his associate Dr Siegel says about the reduced risk of e-cigs vs tobacco cigarettes.

The press conference for the initial results of the study can be viewed in the attached video starting at the 55:25 timestamp.
