I don't think that is normal. Today I received my coffee juice and I'm very fond of it  I have the type of cartridges that you drip 4-5 drops directly into the cartridge. I have noticed the batting looks pretty cheesy, but am I doing something wrong? After about a half hour, the batting is dry and I am on to a new cartridge.
The micro I have is the SS No. 7 (KR808??) and am currently waiting for my new Joye 510. Watched the YouTube of the Joye and like it much better. But in the meantime I am "eating" cartridges. Any advice??
Cheers.

No "advice" here but just wanted to confirm that I had the same experience with the prefilled cartomizers on my KR808D-1

Now I use juice and it saves lots

Like everyone says, usually the stock carts just suck. The filling isn't normally the greatest which is why a lot of people mod their carts with Pyramid Tea Bags or Blue Foam filling.

As for possibly vaping too much, well, no worries there either! If you decide to get some new juice anytime soon, you may want to look into buying flavorless liquid w/ nicotine and then a bottle of flavored liquid w/ no nicotine. This way you can blend your own bottle of nico-juice for those nicotine cravings and have the 0mg nico-free juice for pleasure vaping. :)

Since I haven't completely gone off analogs, using them until I get this figured out. Just went thru another cartridge. I am only getting 4-8 decent "hits" off of these cartridges I continue to fill and use. When my Joye 510 arrives tomorrow, fingers crossed, I am hoping things will be easier and better than what is happening now.

when i was first looking into e-cigs i got the impression a cart was equivalent to about a pack, as i dug further i found the average to be 7-10. this changes with atty type and if you are using cartomizer. i've been dripping for awhile and like that a lot. not an improvement on how long i can vape but with a drip tip it is quick.

The problem is, if you are just putting drops right on top of the filler material that comes with the cartridge, it isn't going to sink to the bottom without a little help. You can use a syringe, the straw modification, or you can use a toothpick or paper clip to push the filler aside a little bit so that it can breath while you are putting in the drops.

Some people use a needle tipped dropper bottle.

And I have found that if you replace the stock filler material with blue foam, you can actually put the drops right in if you tilt the cartridge to the side while doing so, but that is probably a bit more than you want to bite off and chew right now.

I thought I was starting to get a handle on this, but the more I know the less I understand. Being a moderately heavy smoker (not a chain), what I am getting from the posts is that I will be frequently filling, changing batting, burning thru atty's, etc. This is all okay, but how does everyone find the time in their personal schedules to accomplish maintaining their PV's.
I feel like I am missing something, which of course, would not be the first time!!! HELP

Did you read my post above?

Here is some more information that might hopefully help...

Dry atomizers, flooded atomizers, and wicking
Basically, you want to keep your atomizer happy with plenty of juice, but not too much as to flood it.

A good sign that it's flooded is that it gets a little harder to draw on and you get little or no vapor.
Flooding it, however, won't hurt it at all, and you can just blow out the extra juice.

Letting it get too dry, on the other hand, is not good for the atomizer supposedly.
But regardless of whether it is bad for the atomizer or not, you still don't want to do it.

You can tell it is too dry when it starts to taste like crap.
A nasty sort of burnt plastic type of taste.

One reason it might get too dry is if you burn through the juice faster than it can wick up more.
That is why people experiment with different kinds of filler materials to use in their cartridges.

If you take only a drag or two every now and then, you should be fine.
But if you use these like a cigarette, the wicking process will have trouble keeping up.
There are ways to deal with this, and people have different methods that work better for them.

And of course, when the cartridge is running low on juice, it needs topping off for this reason.

You will be frequently filling, unless you get cartomizers (which I don't recommend at this time although many others will) or you change the filler material that comes with your electronic cigarette to something that wicks much better.

But there is no reason to frequently change batting, unless you want to.
Just wash it out if needed, and use it again.

And there is NO reason to burn through atomizers.

You still have a lot to learn it seems, as we all do when we first start.
Just take a deep breath, provide specific details, and ask more questions.

We're all here for you!!

D - yes, of course I read your post and yes, I still have much to learn. I can only hope that someday I have as much information about vaping as you. However, in the meantime, it can be daunting (jeez, I feel like I'm in therapy!!). While trying to maneuver through all of the information and then find that what I had heard, read, saw about filling my own cartridges was not what I expected was frustrating. Thank you for your sage advice and will, of course, continue this journey.
Cheers.

Welcome to ECF Ponygirl!!

It's all part of the learning process...hang in there and you'll get the hang of it pretty quick. It's really not as complicated as it seems...

When you get your 510, take the poly out of one of the cartridges (if it has e-liquid in it, squeeze it out) and cut it off to about 2/3. You'll use this as kind of a plug and it will allow more e-liquid in the cart and will wick much better. It can be cut off more, but I always start with 2/3. A cart fixed like this lasts me at least an hour, usually more cause I keep two e-cigs going.

As someone else mentioned, I usually am dripping on one of my e-cigs. I love to change flavors and dripping makes it really easy. Usually 3 drops and I'm good for 10-15 puffs -- about a cig worth.

Good luck...you'll get there!

CJ - Thank you. The learning curve can be steep, particularly when one is so excited and determined to switch from analogs to PV's.
Having said that, vaporing is a bit more high maintenance. It is def a mind set, since this is not just opening a pack of analogs and you are on your way.
Again, thank you for your input and will take your advice to heart.
Cheers. :)

Its really not that high maintenance once you get into a routine - I cant honestly say that dripping ( I drip - messing with cart filling got tedious lol) is that much more of a faff than locating a lighter, then finding an ashtray then finding a PLACE to smoke, never inside, and sometimes outside it took a while, being mindful of not polluting people..who were standing near traffic....).
It takes me roughly 3 - 4 seconds to drip and vape (presuming I didnt spend ages deciding on a flavor lol) and I can do it pretty much any place (stealthing if necessary).
Certainly any pipesmokers out there would laugh at our idea of 'high maintence' .
There is a learning curve, there was learning to smoke and not throw up or cough up a lung on every puff at first, but once you get there..ahhhh :)

Yes you drip a cpuple of drop 2 or 3 usually directly onto the atty bridge - thats the sticky-up mushroom headed gizmo you can see inside the atty.
Drip, reattch empty cart (take the filler OUT) to use as a mouthpiece, depress button on battery, vape :)

Edit: re-drip whenevr the taste fades, dont wait til it tastes weird or burnt, that means its too dry. If you add too much juice and you hear gurgling then remove cart and atty, gently cradle atty in paper towel (dont grip it) and blow hard into cart end of atty until excess juice comes out into paper towel. Then start over with dripping.
