Hello Everyone!

So I have been at this for a little over 4 months. Loving it so far, but my journey has had some ups and downs. Long story short, I started with a knock off ego-T, then the real one with LR atty's from CigNot, then the Type B's, then discovered Ego Mega Dual Coil Carto's. Boy were they nice! Still use them today and I am very happy with them. Wifey asked me what I wanted for Christmas so I just said what the hell, get me an Infinity Pro. Well, she did! Wow is this thing nice!!!!!!!!!! So is my wife for that matter! :)

So, I now have my first mod and I have been using it hard since Christmas day. I picked up a tank from MadVapes as well as a 510 to 510 extention and a pack of 3.2 ohm boge carto's. My EMDCC's are really nice on this and work really well. I don't turn the voltage up that high, just in between green and yellow for a nice warm vape. The tank is the 3.5 ml dual coil 1.6 ohm kit. It has been performing well, but I have started to get a bad scratching feeling in the back of my throat when I use it. The higher the voltage the worse it gets, but I don't get the burnt taste from the juice. Not sure if it is the carto or not. Tonight I filled up 2 of the boge's with some juice to try out some higher voltage. Once I got them filled correctly, (used condom method,) they tasted really good and low volts, but when I cranked it up to 4.5 or 5+ I could hear the carto cooking the juice for a second, then nothing. All I got was burning carto taste. :(

So now my questions.

1. Should I try a different carto in the MadVapes tank, or look into other tank options? Is there something I can do to my existing set up to make it a bit smoother? I have not tried any other juice in the tank, just my Bounty Hunter. I don't like a mix match of juice in a carto.

2. I thought the Boge 3.2 ohm carto's were for high volt mod's. Why does it seem like they are not wicking right at the higher settings? The juice seems to burn up quicker then it can get to the coil, and that is were the burnt taste is coming from.

3. Finally, for those that have the higher volt mods, what do you use?? I am looking for something that will last all day, and hold up. I work construction so I need something that is not prone to breaking easily. The EMDCC do work well, but I would like to be able to experiment with higher voltages and at $3 + a piece I don't want to burn them out.

Finally, let me say thank you for bearing with my novel. I do tend to ramble a bit from time to time. I just wanted to share me story a little and hear what everyone thought.

Good move complimenting the wife, always a good idea to appreciate those we love and love us back!

I use the carto tanks too and I think it might be the high voltage burning off the ejuice too quickly, hotter coil. I use mine on a garage door opener mod vv and I found that if I turn it up too much that happens to me. In fact I burned one out in no time flat, but just once. I run, 2.0 ohm dual coil, at no more than about 4.5. I like to hear a bit of crackling but not too much.

Just my 2 cents. Maybe someone else can chime in with their experiences.

I would strongly suggest you look at the 5 volt GLV2. It's built like a tank and comes with a lifetime warranty. You would probably have to carry one extra battery with to get through the day. A really solid PV with a legion of supporters on ECF. The 5 volt model will give you fuller and warmer vapor:

Every one has a sweet spot when it comes to wattage, but if it gets too high it will burn your juice. A LR carto/atty at 5 volts is around 16 watts and just too high for a good vape. Somewhere around 8 to 10 watts is usually a good place to start and work from there. Easy to find an online volt to ohm to watt to amp calculator and plug in your numbers. MadVapes sells higher resistance (ohms) attys/cartos for the higher voltages.

What's the PG/VG ratio of your juice? A high VG juice may be too thick to wick correctly in your cartos. You could add a touch of distilled water or PGA to thin it out a bit if that's the case.

That is what is nice about a good 5 volt or variable volt model: no need to use LR atty/cartos because you get nice warm vapor with standard resistence or dual coil attys/cartos. Plus standard attys/cartos hold up better.

Yep I was in construction and if I had been vaping at that time I most definitely would have bought an all mechanical Mod- GLV2, Megalodon or the Silver Bullet. My Don is a workhorse and can take the abuse of dust, dirt and dropping it. The Provari stays at home :)
As the previous poster noted the poor wicking may be due to a heavy VG mix.
Good Luck, Vapoor.

My experience with higher voltages made me realize I should take shorter puffs or the heat in the back of my throat was irritating. After trying to adjust for a while I realized I just like to draw a little too long to take the heat. I think people who don't want or need a lot of throat hit like me probably aren't the best candidates for high voltage vaping.

Agreed. Not referring to you, but what kills me is that a few persistent members providing advice to new people who want warmer vapor and more throat hit, actually don't like throat hit but still feel the need to give advice that does little good since they themselves don't like warm vapor or throat hit. They never recommend a higher voltage or variable voltage model because they have no experience with them and seem to think everyone should be satisfied with cold vapor and little to no throat hit. I really don't get that

Only ..... you keep refering to the GLV2 as a 5v mod, and that's not exactly true. It hits at 12watts regardless of what you put on it.

    Keith,

Thanks for the reply. In the two carto's I tried I put in Bounty Hunter and Cold Creek. Both are 65pg/35vg juice. They are not that thick and have always worked well in all the carto's I have used. Same juice in the EMDCC works fine, but I never fired the voltage up that high with those. Do the Boge 3.2 carto's need to break in a little first?

That is a really good point. I do take very very long drags. In fact, I hated the cut out time on the ego batteries that I have. I would constantly see that light flashing under my finger. From what I have seen so far, the Infinity Pro does not have a cut off, so I just keep drawing on it for a long time. Maybe a bit too long from what you are saying.

I have been thinking about dropping my nic levels also. Right now I am using 18mg. Got some Vermillion River samples at 20mg and they are a bit on the harsh side.

Does the higher voltage affect the throat hit that much or does it depend on the juice? Still trying to find my "sweet spot"

While I sometimes miss the little head rush I would get from my smokes, I find that I enjoy the flavor and the warmth of vaping more. The highest nic juice that I have is some Vermillion River at 20mg. I thought that it was harsh, but I am not sure if it was the juice or the nic level's. My Bounty Hunter and Renegade RY4 are both at 18mg and I really love the flavor of both of them. I started with a local shops Marlboro flavored juice, added some cherry and menthol and I liked the flavor, but thought something was missing. They were all at 11mg.

At this point I would thank that somewhere around 15mg might be the level for me, but I really don't know. I do know that I like a really warm vapor. Especially when I am working in 35 degree weather.

    WV,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already have my VV mod. So far the Infinity Pro has been working really well, and the batteries have been lasting me more then a day. What I was asking was, what does everyone put on top of their high volt mod's. What tanks, carto's, etc. I keep seeing my tank or EMDCC getting ripped off the I Pro in my head, so I was just curious what others have had used and like.

This sounds like the exact problem I was having with my Infinity Pro. First issue is the voltage. I find that anything higher than 4.7v on a Boge 3ohm carto at that ratio of PG VG will burn it up very fast, and cause wicking problems. First thing to fix it that I did was to get a voltage meter to screw on to my Infinity. Second was to poke or dremel a bigger hole into the carto. If you are not using a tank get one, and cut or poke one sizeable hole in the Boge. (others such as smoketeck, smaller holes) Then when I found my Infinity at 4.7 I got a piece of paper and black tape and locked the wheel into place. I found that if I accidently bumped that wheel even a little I would go from 4.5 to 5.2...and 5.2 = burnt tasting, dry throat carto town. I finally had to just trade my wifes for an Original Buzz so I could set it with the screw and forget it. An Infinity is really IMO for atomizers. You can pull a 2.5 - 3.0ohm atomizer all over that wheel to any voltage setting with no problem, and set your wheel to taste and all that good stuff.

    Dan,

Thanks for the info. I don't have a meter, and I wasn't going to get one. I just figured I could tune the dial in for what I was using. I had no idea that it could jump that much with just a bump. Sounds like I might need to get a meter just to see what it is doing. I will say that so far the range in between green and yellow has been working as I expected it to. I can see small differences when playing in that range.

The 3.2 ohm boge's that I have are not in tanks. The only tank that I have is the 3.5 ml dual coil from MadVapes. That has been fine with the small hole, but I haven't dialed it up that much. It is rated at 1.6 ohm and I really didn't know how high I could go on a dual coil. Since it is the only one I have I didn't want to fry it.

A 1.5 ohm dual coil in a tank should be able to take just about anything that the infinity can put out. That being said I like to run mine at about 4.2, and most VV devices don't play well with Dual coils. I run my 1.5 Smoketech dual coils in a 5ml Big Daddy SS tank on my Precise Plus 18650 on a fresh charge and it is perfect. If you are a carto lover a 14 dollar voltage meter and an 18 dollar 3ml reg carto tank is all that stands between you and carto nirvana!

I generally use 80PG/20VG juices as that's what's been recommended to me for use in cartos and it works well for me, so I don't stray too much from that. My experience is mostly with the 2 ohm Boges, I use them at 5V and get plenty of vapor and TH with them. I tend to take rather short drags though. I haven't noticed a need to break them in as long as I wait a bit on the first fill for the juice to really soak in and make sure they're topped off as well. I usually get about 21 drops in a Boge; certainly not a precise measure but enough to know if I'm in the ballpark. I don't like the condom method myself; I think it's too much work, too messy(for me) and doesn't really work that well (again, for me). I just drip, turn, drip, wait, repeat as necessary. Some say using a syringe is the absolute best way to fill a carto but that's too much work for me.

You have to remember that when you increase the wattage you're vaping at, either through increasing your voltage or decreasing your resistance, you will be vaporizing your juice faster so the juice that wicked fine at 3.7V may not wick so well at 5V. You could try taking shorter hits or thinning out your juice a bit if that's the problem. I also had to reduce my nic level when I went to 5V when I realized that more vapor = more nic. I went from about 3 ml a day to 5ml a day.

I think thinning out your juice a bit might be your best bet, it only take a few drops of either distilled water or PGA.

I've also heard some talk the the QC of the Boges isn't what it once was, so you MAY have just gotten a couple duds. I have had a few here and there lately myself but not nearly enough to make me look for something else.

    Keith,

I have not tried my 2 ohm boges on the I Pro at all. I thought that the resistance was too low, so I ordered the 3.2 ohm boges. Guess I should give them a try as well. I do tend to take long drags though. It is just something that I will have to experiment with to see what works best. As for filling, I thought the same way as you. I would always just drip down the side. I could never get over 15 drops in a boge carto though. It would always start dripping out the bottom. I noticed when I did this with the Cold Creek juice I would get a really bad taste. I thought it was a bad carto, but I got it again last night. Tried the condom method with it and the taste cleared up and went back to what I remembered, which was a really good thing. That is when I cranked up the volts. Good hit for half a second, then burnt nastiness. I will try thinning it out a bit and see what happens.

Even if I can't hit the 5+ volt mark I know that I am enjoying the 4+ range more then my ego batteries. All in all I like that options that the I Pro gives me. And this is a lot more fun then just buying a pack of Marlboro's. :)
