I'm not looking for illegal music downloads over p2p networks or anything. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any musical artists who make their songs available for download free of charge.

I was looking for information about the Tom Robinson Band today. They did the best version ever of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released". Anyway, there's a Tom Robinson web site and he's made about 100 of his songs available for download for free from that site (optional donations via Paypal). [For anyone who doesn't know, Tom Robinson came along at the tail end of the first British Punk era in the late 70's. Like some of the best musicians of those days, he had a great social conscience. His band was temporarily lumped in with the punks but more properly overlapped into something almost like folk-rock music, maybe close to some of the Pogues' music.]

I think there are quite a few legitimate downloads out there that don't involve music piracy. So, if anyone knows any other artists who post music for download, please post a link.

Sorry, didn't know where or whether it was okay to post this thread, but thanks for any replies!

I think "William Orbit" offers free tracks now and then. If you are a member of the "Thomas Dolby" website, you can get some early demos/live tracks from there as well. The "White City/Lecture" track is worth going through the sign-up alone...

"Radiohead's" last album was available for free off their site as well, if you felt like donating a few quid, that was fine, but if you wanted it for nothing, that was also ok (not sure if it's still available, I bought the CD, I don't like DD's).
