On a side note, I think whoever began calling these personal vaporizers "e-cigarettes" did the entire industry a disservice. Anything connected with the designation of cigarette gives it a bad name and impression. I try the best that I can to call what I use a PV or personal vaporizer. And if that causes confusion to someone that I am explaining it to, I say it is an alternative nicotine delivery device, not unlike nicotine gum or patches.

I totally agree, but the damage is done and vaping will always be connected with the word cigarette.

Having friends say negative things about your successes is heartbreaking. I would ask if they were smokers, ex-smokers or none-smokers who tried to take a swipe...?

There are always going to be people who try and bring you down but letting them is possibly the worst thing you can do. I have a series of stock answers, usually about my success now vs my success using NRTs and what the chemicals in PVs actually are. I also have a lot of support from one or two friends and family members. Everyone else can go to a generally hot and firey place with a devil in charge!

I heard an interesting talk by a monk called Ajahn Brahm recently on Youtube. It was called 'Dealing with Difficult People'. It certainly helps me ;-) x

First, congratulations on not smoking! It is a huge step to take and something you should be very proud of!

I run into a lot of negatives and resistance from friends and family, but also some positive responses. I find that in most situations where I get a negative response, it's usually because the person isn't familiar with what vaping is. In most cases, after I explain to them what vaping is, and isn't, the person usually changes their tune and becomes receptive to it. Heck, I have even had a few people at my work who knew nothing about vaping and were smokers, stop smoking and start vaping after I explained to them what it was I was doing, and that is always a great thing.

I started vaping 2 weeks ago.
Still on some look alikes, but looking to move bigger.

I'm annoyed that my friends think it's great I stopped smoking,
but give me hell for vaping!!!

I think two weeks without a ciggie should give me a high five!!
Plus, I don't drink coffee or eat refined sugar, and drink green tea for my caffeine.

Any ideas how to clue friends into the healthy changes we are making??

did you tell them that the vaping is what's keeping you off of the real cigarettes?

yea Ive also had a few friends say "Hey you should stop smoking that thing, its artificial chemicals and that's probably worse for you!"

right on....I've replied to someone with asthma who had neg comments, "So...did you have you nebulizer treatment today? or use your inhaler? " when they gave it thought it shut them down on the track they were taking...

I know that when I look in the mirror I see a different person than the smoker I used to be. I don't hack and cough in the morning, I can take a flight of stairs without gasping, and my sex life has gotten better. As a bonus I've lost 10 pounds since I have all the wonderful juice flavors to cure my sweet tooth. Vaping has been a huge boost to my lifestyle, and I couldn't give a blue damn about some uninformed yahoo's bad opinion of it. I can explain the benefits to anyone who cares to listen, but for some it's always going to be just another version of cigarette smoking. It's just annoying to have someone look down on you for vaping, then try to tout the advantages of their world class albino midget porn collection. We all have hobbies, don't judge me for mine and I won't judge you for yours.

"and my sex life has gotten better"

"world class albino midget porn collection."

Can we get that post cast in bronze?

My advice about the friends..."Walk softly and carry a big mod".

had a friend for three days in a row told me reason after reason why i shouldn't vape. after politely listening for three days, i showed him my banner. i told him i have heard all the reasons why i should not, but the banner tells me all i need to know. pig headed stubbornness:evil: works real well with ignorance, and intolerance :grr:

I'm a month and a half into vaping. My husband and I quit at the same time, I with my pv and he with Njoys. The Njoys hit hard enough to get him through cravings (45mg and then 30mg) but weren't enjoyable so he used them to tough it out through 2 weeks and then quit. I just vaped away on my 18mg and quickly moved to 12mg. Not once did I have a craving.

This weekend I received my new 6mg juice. Last night while watching TV he suddenly chimes "That smells good!" (first time he's said this). I tell him it's my new salted caramel juice. After a pause he asked if I'm using my pv less, or craving it less (he's already made a remark or 3 in the past month about how he "doesn't even need that" anymore). I tell him that I've cut my nic by two thirds in the past month, and that I fully intend to try to get to 0 nic. I immediately follow up with the fact that since nicotine is shown to improve memory, concentration, and athletic performance I will happily go back to 6mg if I find it's helpful to me.

His only response was a sheepish "Oh...."

The whole point of my ramble? A lot of people assume that NICOTINE is bad. As pointed out above, nicotine is typically on par with caffeine when it comes to the level it affects the body. In some circumstances they can even both be beneficial. Part of our "job" as vapers has to be to learn and then share this information with people who don't know the difference between smoking and nicotine consumption.
