I started vapeing a long time ago, when Ecigs first showed up. I have pretty much laid off them until the last few weeks. I have vaped the BLU disposable and while I enjoy it, it is not cheap to keep sucking down 10.00 disposables and frankly I want a change of flavor. I also have been through about 3 refill packs of cartomizers for the Mistic sold at Wal-mart.

Now, while I realize the mistic is a POS, what it had going for it was that a starter kit is $13.00 and refils are readily available anywhere in the country with a quick run to wal-mart. Other than the carts tasting burnt about halfway through, the battery has been great and still holds a nice charge. it can pretty much go all day for me on 1 cart and charge. Again, getting tired of the same flavors and cost of carts. I travel a lot for work so being able to grab refills off the shelf and not have to haul around e cig gear is a real benefit to me.

Here is my Ideal E-cig:

Good battery
automatic activation
mini form factor (dont want a screwdriver)
Ability to refill cartridges with eliquid (cartomizers are OK if they aren't crazy expensive)
Atomizer that won't burn and taste nasty
produces a nice thick vapor

no, as for the E liquid:

American made
VG based- This is important to me because the PG based e liquids give me a headache.
Preferably sold by the same people that make the ecig you recommend
Wide variety of flavors
Fast shipper.

I am tempted to just go with the Blue Ecig, but I have read a lot of bad reviews... apparently their starter kit isnt as good as their disposables.

Any advice really appreciated guys.

Another approach is to just improve on the Mistic, if you like it. For example it is probably possible to refill the cartos, so you should do that before the 'halfway' point that you mention. Also keep in mind that a carto only holds about 6 cigarette's worth, so if you smoked 20 a day you'll be using 3 or 4 cartos a day. Forget about vendors telling you there is a pack of cigs in there, that is a fantasy.

You should be able to pop the endcap off the top of the carto, remove any plug or washer inside, then you can see the rolled filler material and a centre air hole. Just tip the carto to a slight angle and drip refill liquid at the side, onto the filler. Don't overfill it or get any down the centre hole if you are using an auto ecig, any liquid leakdown into the battery will kill it.

I wouldn't bother putting the top cap or internal washers back, use a driptip instead. You can find driptips to fit most cartos.

Get some VG liquid in from any of 100 vendors here on ECF. Just one thing: if the brand you get is too viscous (thick and gloopy), it will need thinning out with distilled water or alcohol (vodka is fine as it is a mixture of alcohol and distilled water). VG needs to be as thin as PG or it doesn't work properly in some heads, and cartos are one of them. Remember if you thin e-liquid out by diluting it like this, you will lose some nicotine strength and flavour. On the other hand, if you use rum, you get a nice rum tobacco :)
