I don't know if I'm allowed to discuss flavors here, or not. I am not normally a DIY'er, and I am a zero nicotine, but in my recent quest to save some money and not have to constantly keep ordering my favorite eliquid, I spent MORE than I wanted to on flavorings and PG/VG bases. Here is what I am after, and this is a general question, if anyone knows.

First of all, my all day vape is Strong Mint, mixed with a hint of honeydew (both Dekang). It's strong menthol, cool hit, with a juicy sweetness to it, that just cannot be beat. Another close one is the menthol by Imperial. Good stuff!

So I ordered peppermint extract (found out later on via this forum that's not the right thing to do, and honestly, though I am a peppermint maniac, the flavor was off).

I then went and ordered menthol crystals. I have not used those yet and there's a reason why. And that is because of my recent Arctic Wolf order, and I don't think I'll be needing anything menthol or icy for some time to come. I like it but it's too strong by itself and it doesn't have any real flavor. I am missing the sweetness!

So, today, in the mail (did I mention I live HIGH up in the mountains and cannot go shopping around for ingredients where I am). Today I got Lorann's Bubblegum flavoring (since it's that sweetness I am after), as well as their Spearmint. And I've read that the bubblegum is colored and therefore maybe not safe.

The bubblegum smells and tastes like bubble gum, but there's no real sweetness there. And the spearmint? EW! It has a very strange smell that at first is nothing like spearmint. And even after letting it sit for a while, there's just a lingering aroma that does not appeal to my mint-crazy senses.

So my question is, WHERE's the sweetness? Am I using too little flavor (I've only made a sample 1 ml deal with a couple drops of bubblegum, to my 50/50 PG/VG ratio, and again, NO nicotine involved).

I have tried mixing with other liquids (I have a few "melon" juices that there is a bad aftertaste, totally unusable).

I've thought about Splenda or something but I'm not seeing a lot of these recipes call for it, so I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I just want a typical strong menthol/cool mint, with a touch of sweet.

Okay I am totally babbling now, but ANY help is appreciated, or if I am not allowed to discuss liquids here in this forum, I apologize in advance.

I was a 25 year smoker. I've been vaping for just under 3 months. I haven't touched a cigarette since August, and that particular liquid was my key to that success. It was PERFECTION and I'm going broke and losing my mind trying to find that sweet spot again, especially since it will be a few more weeks before I could even go order my "norm" again.

Saw a thread earlier and someone used sweetner. I don't know what it is, I don't like sweet flavors.

I find heating fresh mixes in a cup of hot water to get them thin and then shaking helps the flavor.
BUBBLEGUM, EWWWW. It took everclear to get that flavor out of my clearo and even then not completely.
You might want to check out the DIY forum. You need 5 posts here before you can post elsewhere.

Thanks guys, that helps! I will be posting in the DIY forum. I guess it is just the sweetener I am missing. It seems no matter what I do, it just comes out with a weird taste that doesn't taste anything like the usual eLiquids.

DKP I am kind of with you regarding the Bubblegum "ew". Yesterday it was okay, but today I can't seem to get the flavor out of my tank.

Dame, one reason for the lack of sweetness may be the relatively high percentage of PG in your liquid. PG taste is quite acrid, while VG is basically sweet.

Be aware that the very same flavoring tastes very differently when using eliquids made of pure PG or VG or anything in between..

I'd suggest to get some VG and test again the same flavors, I'm sure you'll notice quite a difference. You can buy VG (USP grade glycerol) from a pharmacy or even from amazon, a few dozen ml's will be enough for testing.

Good luck!

I keep reading favorable references to Arctic Wolf ...

Ordered a 30ml bottle on Monday, now I can't wait for it to get here, to see if its as good as or better than Halo SubZero ...

xPen thank you for that lightbulb moment. Indeed, you are right. I use VG for many other things (for example, we make our own natural toothpaste with it) and it's definitely sweeter. Maybe it IS too much PG in my mix. I will most definitely try adding more VG.

Rico, I hope you enjoy it. It's honestly just "okay" IMO but we all have different tastes. If you are looking for a "super cool" feeling in your throat, that will make your nostrils cold, then this is the vape for you. ha! For myself, I do love the "cool" hit, but it has to be accompanied by a decent amount of minty flavor as well.

You will seriously dig my recipe. I have been working on it for a year and its amazing. Menthol/Ice and an understated sweetness that smooths out the coolness. Here's a version just for you, zero nic :)

Plus it's made with no need for PG, excepting that which is in the flavors (Wizard Labs or The Perfumers Apprentice)

So so yummadelic!
