Since I've only gone out of pocket a few times to convert smokers, I wonder how common this is:

I have a friend who showed some interest in my PV, so I set up a kit for him out of some of my old stuff. He never carries it, because he "doesn't want to get it dirty" (he has a dirty job). He says he uses it in the evenings, and it's helped him reduce his smoking.

I have the sneaking suspicion that he doesn't really use it at all, but for some odd reason he pretends that he does. It was a gift, so I should just forget about it and move on... the thing is I'd rather it went to a good home than lay around in a drawer collecting dust.

I should just forget about it.

Dang.

If he doesn't want to quit tobacco, he won't.... you're a good friend for offering to try to help him, but as the daughter of an addict (to things much more harmful than tobacco), and tobacco being an addictive substance... I am very aware that you have to be truly ready to quit. Even switching addictions, like to getting the nicotine from a vapor than from nasty stinky tobacco smoke, is not something that's easily done for many.

You did your good deed.... I'd just not mention it much again. If he doesn't feel pressure from you to use your lovely gift (how many of us have worn those awful sweaters our relatives have given us, or said "Oh no, I wear it Mom, I just hadn't gotten to do laundry...."), and he really isn't using it, he may mention that it didn't work out, or pass it on to someone else who will use it more. And if he is using it, then it's not sitting in a drawer collecting dust. :)

Again, you're a good friend....

Thanks Moriah. :)

I just wonder if there is some correlation between spending your own money and receiving your 1st PV as a gift... If you don't have any skin in the game, you don't have much motivation to stick it out. Of the two kits I've given out, only one of them seems to be doing any good.

On the bright side, I'm batting 500! Better than that, if you count the Silver Bullet my wife stole from me... :|

We've converted a few friends and family members. Most are very enthusiastic about the product, but we've found that some will go back to using tobacco. I believe a lot of it has to do with not having a vested interest in the product as it was a gift, for one. Also, that it was not them seeking a change or not being ready personally for a change, but more of a novelty gift that is easily dismissable.

At the very least they have an option that hopefully they will reconsider at a later time.

I've been in the same boat so many times (handed out 100's of free kits, supplies, etc, to those I've felt "may" be interested or benefit), and simply chalk it up as my good deed of the day and never look back (call it my "feel good" goodwill addiction, lol).

Some catch the bug and love it, overs don't..... no big deal to me as its a new "cult" that will take time to truly catch on. And since they are items that more or less are sitting around in my cold storage, I at least believe that with giving them away there is at least a "chance" that they (and in turn.. "I"), do some good. I can live with that.

I'm never too worried about a full convert (hell, I'm not and am pleased with the progress I've made in harm reduction as well as with not "needing" to endure the elements in those situations where I can't smoke), but take pleasure in the fact that I "may" have helped someone (even if occasionally), avoid an analog here and there, and that has to be a good thing right ?

I never went into this to quit smoking, and so far I still hold this attitude because I love smoking..... but, as my intake of analogs dwindles its way down I take solace in the fact that "maybe" someday I'll be free of the stinky's, but today.... I'm happy to simply be breathing better, don't offend as many non's, and no longer have to freeze my .... off to get my fix.

Kudo's for your efforts friend..... we can only do so much !

Greg

If it were me, I would casually get into a conversation about vaping and then make a comment something like "Hey if for some reason you change your mind or get a better PV, let me know because I got another friend who is really interested in them and I can give it to them to try."

My first PV was a nice KR808D-1 that I kept as a backup after I got my Joye510. My sister-in-law wanted to try vaping so I gave her my whole KR8 setup with about 1/2 dozen bottles of e-juice and I also asked her that if it didn't work out if I could get the kit back from her. I think she only gave it a half-hearted try and hardly used it but then tried my 510 one day, loved it and got her own and gave me back my KR8 kit.

A couple of weeks later my 22 year old nephew showed interest and absolutely fell in love with my KR8 so it's now his with the understanding that I get it back if he gives up on it or just loses interest. Fortunately I found out that he has just about quit smoking for good using it so for me he can keep it and pass it on to someone else if he gets another one.

I don't have any problem giving things away, but if they are not going to either appreciate it or use it then that always bothers me.

When I started vaping I was not planning on quitting cigarettes. My husband bought it for me at a Pilot Truck Stop. I tried it and it wasnt't half bad. I still smoked some cigarettes. Then I found this forum and ordered a 510. Shortly after that I quit cigarettes. I had no intention of quitting but I found this to be a great substitute. It was by luck that I quit.

There was somebody on the forum that didn't have the money to purchase a 510. They were willing to swap something they had of value. I amoung others sent him a 510 kit. He used this and quit cigarettes.
This made me very happy to be able to convert someone to ecigs.

I stumbled upon e-cigs about 8 months ago. At the same time the person that shares my house with me had been going on about quitting her smoking for months. I started vap'n just because it was a new toy, nothing serious. Within two to three weeks I had completely stopped using tobacco. Everytime I bought a new 'toy' I bought her one as well.
Now 8 months later I am loving my 'new' lungs, new body (started working out at the same time) and new zest on life. She is still saying how she will quit analogs one of these days.

I vape in my office and bedroom and go outside with her to vap when she smokes. I never bring it up, just keep dripping and enjoying her company while she coughes and gets outta breath walking up steps. To each their own. I am happy with my choices and allow all others theirs.

Yep. In fact, we still keep ashtrays in the house for our smoking friends. I want my guests to be comfortable when they visit. As long as they don't take a bath in perfume or cologne, I'm good.

Ugh. As it is my brother wears far, far too much cologne. But he's a smoker, too; maybe I can get him on vapes!

There's a saying, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink".

You did a wonderful act of kindness with the best intentions. Remind yourself of this and move on. It was a gift and gifts should have no strings attached.

As for wanting to help others, there are others here that need help and will use what ever anyone gives them. At least you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your gift is much appreciated and is being used.

"No good deed goes undone".

None of that is really what's eating me... I guess I just hate to think about a PV that is unloved, and forgotten. They need lots of love and attention, and plenty of exercise. :D
