hey all, have a few questions that have me stumped.

First off, I have been using the smoketech DCT's for about a year, so I am fairly familiar with them, but have had a couple odd things lately.

I have been using the single hole cartos mostly. Recently, I had one that was always dry, no matter what i did it wouldn't feed.

Next 3 I used, would only flood. Again, no matter what I did, too much juice all the time.

So I started using the boges that I am punching. My 4 month old tank went from completely crystal clear to being cloudy in the course in a week using the boge carto. Now on the second boge carto, it is getting even cloudier.

This is all with the same DIY juices I have been using for a year and a half.

So something in the boges are causing my tanks to get cloudy which has me nervous.

I have also noticed that my juice seems to be "setting up" or getting much thicker than it used to be. Again, this is the same juice (I make unflavored) with the same ingredients I have been using for a year+ too. Not sure if it is getting a little colder in the house, but I don't remember it being that way last year.

Anyway, just some odd things I have noticed lately that I find odd.

Well for one it could be getting cloudy because you were using a juice with spices, 2. Juice concentrates after time.

Is it the juice that you have noticed getting cloudy or the tubes of the tank?

There are certain flavors that are capable of breaking down certain plastic materials, in particular polycarbonate plastic. This is the clear plastic tubing found in most older style tanks like the first generation Smoktech DCT, Big Daddy, Little Momma, Vaporescence, J Tanks, Map tanks, etc.

When some of these "caustic" flavors break down the polycarbonate, it is called leaching and could be dangerous to vape. The tubing will appear cloudy when it originally was clear, and the leaching plastic in the juice will make it appear cloudy and thicker.

Are you sure you haven't started using a different flavor or flavor vendor?

Unless the tube material was frosted in appearance when you bought it (made of polypropylene, a safer plastic) or pyrex, your tank could be vulnerable to these flavors.

I've never heard of a cartomizer which could do what you describe. It must be the flavors you use to DIU.

Concerning the dry hits and flooding, quality control from the Chinese vendors has recently been very hit or miss. You may need to find another vendor.

it was the standard clear poly $10 DCT. The juice is the same juice I have been making for over a year. I make the juice 70/30 pg/vg, I make it unflavored, and I make 120ml at a time. I add about 20 drops of flavoring (soda flavored for the last few months) in the carto tank, and fill the rest with juice.

Nothing has changed except for the boge cartos. I have slowly dropped nic in that time, but that is about it.

I don't know if it is the cartos or a reaction of some type with this juice. Something is just not right.

Exactly what is the soda flavoring? What brand and what flavor of soda? I still think this is what is causing the problem, and not the cartos.

The caustic flavors that cause reaction to the clear polycarbonate plastic can cause a nearly instant reaction (I've had a strawberry lemonade melt a clearomizer in a couple of minutes) or slowly over time, possibly weeks.

Did you check the flavors listed in the link I provided? Do you use any of those?

soda/cola flavor from RTS. Again, nothing changed juice wise in the last few months at all. I have used this juice and this same bottle (120ml) of flavoring for months. I switched over to the boges and my tank clouded up. Simple as that. I don't know if it is the boge itself, or if it is some reaction with the primer and the juice or what.

Funny part is I have used a few of the boges before without problem, but these two were out of a new box.

Just has me a nervous is all.

I can understand your concern.

That said, your tank does appear to use a polycarbonate (clear) tube, which is vulnerable to caustic flavors.

You have been using a cola flavor, which is listed in the above link; not by brand, but as a generalized flavor that has been linked to have had a reaction to polycarbonate in the past.

I've never heard of a cartomizer being the cause of a reaction like you report, but perhaps someone else has.

Regardless, I'd get rid of the tube of that tank. The carto, too. It appears something has leached the plastic and neither the tube or the carto are safe IMO. Some vendors sell replacement tubes for that tank. I think I would either get a polypropylene replacement tube (but not if the endcaps you have are plastic too) or get a pyrex tank. You can get a quality pyrex tank for $20 nowadays.
