....but the blackening when it hasn't been vaped on is unexplainable by these other theories unless the coil/wick were already clogged up some

I think it was a new Stardust... I was never sure about the filtering theory that some folks propose - because I don't feel any difference in the flavor. And it only happens in Stardusts. Magic, I say. LOL

Yeah, the darkening/thickening of juice in a stardust is its only drawback IMO, otherwise its perfect. I wish someone could explain the darkening phenomenon and design a fix for it.

I can't understand how unvaped juice would darken just sitting in a stardust.

The most likely theory I've seen to explain the darkening behavior is that the wick is just sucking up the lighter components in the juice, concentrating the heavier (flavor) components. What makes me doubt this theory is that stardust flavor is just so slightly muted (very close to dripping). If the wicks were acting like a filter I'd expect a bigger impact to flavor.

Another theory I've seen is the heat from the coil is carmelizing the sugar in the remaining juice in the tank.

Neither of these theories explain why juice would darken just from being stored in a stardust.

First off,Phil is a carto man.He specifically likes Boge 2.0 he also uses them in a tank with slits cut in with a Dremel cut off tool. Not punched holes like most.I have tried this method and it works really well.Your carto never gets dry when in a tank so no dry hits and no burning the filler around the coils because of not having enough juice. With a new carto use the syringe method of doing the initial filling and put it in your tank.As long as you have juice in your tank you will never get a burnt or dry hit.

I have tried this method and it works really well. Also you can get a five pack of Boges for about 6 bucks. Some clearos cost that much for one some even more.
You can get a good week out of one Boge setup this way, after that you can clean them and get more use out of them.

After saying that,I think the Vivi Nova is the best thing out there for vaping right now
Easy to maintain, fill ,clean and performs fantastic.

Go look at all the posts in these forums of people having issues with just about every clearo out there. Some have just decided to use Boges as a workaround for those types of problems.
Boges are very consistent and do work extremely well when setup like I suggested above.Think about this ,if you can get a week or more out of a Boge ,and you get five in a pack for about six bucks thats over a month on six bucks.
If you decide to clean them you can get even more. If you dont feel like cleaning them just toss them. A buck a week is not bad.
So I guess what I am saying is there is a place for cartos and yes if you use them the conventional way they are a pain in the ..... but if you use them in a tank they work really well.

If you have some laying around try the method above and you will see what I mean.

Now with all that said, I think the Vivi Nova is the most trouble free, easy to maintain and dry burn setup out there.

I for one will never waist my money on any ce2/top coil type again. The clean taste they give is by far up there with my HH357 atty but the leaking and dry hits are what I cant stand. Im a bit of a consistency nut, if the performance varies I get too frustrated and in the garbage it goes. Thanks to evolv with the kick I dont have to worry about my inconsistent voltage anymore. I vape 100% vg 24/7 and am not gonna change my favorite juices to use hardware that doesnt work.

I can relate to phil with the newer versions being release before the original ever even gets rolling with promised replacement parts for the previous version. And for the price of some of these, Ill just stick with what I know works and can handle the abuse of riding around in an 18 wheeler day after day, a carto tank. Which dont get me wrong I do have to take a dremel to my carto before even filling it but I know that it will be fairly consistent til the juice color goes dark from a burnt coil/filler, which then goes in the trash. For people who work in a less harsh environment like an office were their mod/setup is never in harms way, the ce2s might work for you. My first ce2 tank was a visions stone. By the time the version 1 replacement innards became available the version 2 was already out. Rather than plunking down another $10-15 on this new and improved tank which other than the ground clip vs a soldered ground, IMO is the exact same, I figured id get some new innards for my version 1 and give it another go. Had several problems with it and just gave up on it and all ce2s for good. Tried the tilting method and it would eventually leak out the top cap into the drip tip with juice. I recently just got my mom a kgo kit for mothers day and the new ATR(all the rage) stardust tank thinking they might have gotten the design better but no, they still dont wick properly holding it upside down, giving dry hits. Fun trying to explain to a new vaper, "these taste really good but after every vape you have to tilt it upside down" and wait you got too much juice in the coil cup, now you have to vape lightly to dry it out and then tip up again to re-saturate the coil. Are you :censored: kidding me! O yea didnt mention the only way to get air to draw thru it on the kgo was with a 510 to 510 adapter which just makes it look horrendous. The description said for the ego/kgo!?! another lesson learned.

Sorry for this rant but in my experience there is no possible way to vape without having a fiddle factor involved. Im still wondering when the people that make all these cartos are going to realize that the tiny hole is only good if vape juice with the same viscosity as water. To me gravity will always win, and a top coil with solid rope-like wick design is just not smart when you think about it. Really died laughing in the video when he was asking the juice to climb the wicks. To some I know, I should try a lighter vg ratio for proper wicking, but as I said before Im not going to stop vaping my fav juices due to poor hardware design.:glare:

To me I raise an eyebrow to everyone who prefers boges over the 1.7 smoktecs. I do like the boges' looser draw and quality of the center post being more beefy and stable, but to me, the filler is too thick and too hard to wick my vg properly. I get so much more flavor out of the resurrectors. Ill stick to my occasional primer puffs to keep my carto wet while others tilt away at their ce2s. But to each there own with provolone, as long as it keeps you off tobacco products, vape it.:vapor:

just trying to share my ce:2c: experiences...

thats why choice is important and having many options, the same way you prefer a good old carto , others will prefer a stardust or tank or bottom coil phoenix or dripping or a dct tank etc...

I never run into the issues some of you describe or not anywhere to the point where its a issue, ive done the dripping thing, ive done the cartos of old, and to me ill take a fidlly ce2 over all of that or take a stardust , vivi or bc phoenix and have nothing but a perfect experience every time. I get long mileage out of my stuff with very little fiddling or fuss at all, i mainly fill and vape and use various juices but they rarely ever go above 40%vg. To me, filling a stardust and vaping it is that simple and the taste on both types that i like to me are top notch in every way. When i vape it will naturally tilt at some point in time as vaping vertically isnt something i do so my vape experience is pretty simple and maintenance free. cleaning them is also easier and now with rebuildable its just the perfect solution all around. At the same time a good filler can serve its purpose very well and it simply means finding the right one that works for you. Every oe has their own vaping style and likes and dislikes and thats where choice comes in. I rather have china churning out new stuff then none at all.

All of my vaping is done on my Provaris. I usually stand them up, either on my desk, or in the cup holder in my truck. It's a natural movement, for me, to grab it, and swing it up toward my mouth. Vaping horizontally just is a natural movement; not something I really think about. I love CE2s (Fluxos), and have been using them for about a year. I understand them, and know how they work. I get long mileage out of them. I can mod, fill, and be vaping a Fluxo in less time than I can fill a polyfil carto (drip drip, wait, drip drip, wait, blow out, wipe). I dislike tanks, because I don't like committing that amount of juice to a carto at one time. I like to clean at about every 3 ml or so. I must say that I got a couple boxes of Phoenix BCs when they came out, and have bought more. I'm very impressed with them. I'm glad there's variety. Everybody's different.

I'm a female over 50 years old who has been vaping a very short time. I am not mechanical, I don't like to fiddle and tinker..the only fiddling I want to do is trying new juices.

I started out with cartomizers..they were fine but I had to constantly keep adding juice.

It took a lot..but I finally had the nerve to try a phoenix. I really enjoyed the "tank" type of experience..tasting pure juice, seeing how much was left. The main problem I had, and for me it's a big one because I rate convenience very high in my vaping, is using a syringe to fill it. I have terrible eyesight..even with my glasses..I have a situation going on with my left eye that causes problems. I had a terrible time find that tiny hole. I had to hold it under a lamp with a magnifying glass. Also I always had to have a syringe. For me, personally, it just wasn't working.

Then I tried a Stardust..oh my! Easy to fill..I can even fill it easily. Easy to clean and they are lasting a very long time. And I totally don't mind tilting it. I only need to do that once it is about 1/4 full. Even then I don't mind twirling it or I just go ahead and add more juice. And I can easily change juices..just add a different juice and I'm good to go..I like the 1.6 ml for that. And I always lay my KGO on it's side. So worth the vaping experience to keep the wicks wet. I'm tempted to buy the rebuildable version. I like the idea of being able to easily remove the tube part..but I think I'll wait to see what happens later and maybe the wicks will be easier to replace. I'm very content with a short wick Stardust for now.

Yes..everyone has different priorities and needs and likes and dislikes. That's why there is so much variety. And it's only going to get better and better...looking forward to seeing what you come up with next here at GV! You're doing really well!

Phil if you are reading through this, this is all in fairly good fun. The main thing is, we all can breathe again whether you pogo vape or vape like Johnny Depp...

..on the other hand we could Smack Down. Chris is one of the original champions of the fillerless, the top coil, then the clearo, he's vaping hall-of-fame material. You Phil, have become quite a popular reviewer. You are both out of New York, one in the south in Queens and you up north. Yeah, I coudl really Don King this baby...let's do it...
